“Surprisingly spacious for a flat with bigger rooms than most cottages we have stayed in.”

It’s in a perfect central location overlooking the high street, with shops and walks from the doorstep. Warm, clean and cosy with good facilities. Good for couples or families with older children (as there are steps up to the property and some inside the property). Great that dogs are also welcome with the park being a 5 minute walk away. We’d recommend blinds in the main bedroom (or blackout in both) and a paint refresh on 1 wall in the main bedroom as everything has been recently ...

The property

This lovely spacious and contemporary second floor apartment is situated above a retail store in the heart of the popular town of Ambleside within the magnificent Lake District National Park. This welcoming apartment is an ideal base for four people wishing to explore this wonderful part of Cumbria. Inside there is a contemporary kitchen, dining area and spacious sitting room where a window seat allows for people watching below, whilst from the rear of the property you can enjoy views across Ambleside to Wansfell. Completing the accommodation is a bathroom, double bedroom and twin bedroom. Although you are in the centre of Ambleside, just a short walk from High Ridge takes you to the pretty Rothay Park with superb views across the River Rothay to Loughrigg. Why not walk along the valley to the pretty hamlet of Rydal and Rydal Mount, the home of William Wordsworth? From here you can pick up the 'coffin trail’ and follow this ancient route along to Grasmere and then return via Loughrigg back to High Ridge to enjoy a delicious evening meal in one of the many excellent restaurants that can be found in Ambleside. At any time of year, a cruise from Waterhead up Lake Windermere on the Windermere Steamer is a delightful way to appreciate this magnificent landscape. Stop off at Bowness-on-Windermere or continue down to Lakeside and visit the Aquarium of the Lakes. Whatever your reason to visit this charming base, you will appreciate the handy location with shops and restaurants on the doorstep surrounded by fells and lakes to explore.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Please note : High Ridge does not accept Sunday check ins.
