“I think this was our third visit to Jakanori - just me, him and sister in law this time.”

And with our (new) dog, Bran. We were very lucky with the weather so we were able to go walking everyday. Love the facilities in the cottage and the facilities in and around Staveley. Recommend Wilf’s Cafe, Hawkshead Brewery, More? and Kimi’s Gelato. And not forgetting the local chippy as the battered fish is the best I’ve ever eaten.

And with our (new) dog, Bran. We were very lucky with the weather so we were able to go walking everyday. Love the facilities in the cottage and the facilities in and around Staveley. “We loved our stay at Jakanori.”

It’s a brilliant location for access to Ambleside Windermere etc without getting snarled up in those villages. Really great and sociable layout to the living areas and very practical for dog owners. We were a multi generational party and everyone loved it. Staveley is a super village with great amenities, play park for kids, wonderful characterful pub with a great roast, and some awesome Gelato at Kimi’s. We really had a fabulous time.

“We were 5 adults and 3 small dogs and were delighted with our stay at Jakanori.”

Well equipped, very clean, comfortable and well situated. Excellent fish & chips shop very near by, the Eagle & Child Pub also close by is recommended, very good food and pleasant old fashion premises. Jakanori is also well situated distance wise as from Windermere, under 10 minutes by car and the big plus being the availability of a bus service . All in all we had a most enjoyable stay at Jakanori and hope it will be available again for our next trip to the Lake District.

“Everything was fine, only thing I find frustrating is the cooker hob, it took some getting use to being electric as I am used to gas.”

Also as from previous guests the downstairs bedrooms smell a bit damp. Having said that know what to expect as 3rd.visit to Jakanori . Love the convenient situation the village shops, the surrounding area and if you don’t want to use the car the bus stop is just round the corner!

“Generally, the cottage was lovely.”

However, it was unfortunate that we arrived in the week that we had 4 days of non-stop rain, and I do mean deluge. After our trips out we were soaked to the skin and needed to get warm. We followed the central heating instructions in the manual doing everything correctly, but it would not turn on. it just reverted back to its original state. So we made do with the electric fire. But this was on a timer and as soon as we switched it on it would turn itself off after 20 minutes to half an hour or so and then we could not immediately switch it back on. So we had a major problem of keeping warm. Had the weather been more clement we would not have noticed much of these things, but unfortunately, this was not the case. When we arrived we found the fridge was on number 1 and was not working at that setting, and it was actually warm inside. However, we turned it full on to number 7 and that became adequate. This Property is excellent for Warm weather letting, but when it comes to Autumn, Winter, and January/February letting the Owners must get on top of heating problems. These comments are meant to be constructive for the Owner and are in no way meant to demean what is a beautiful and clean Property.

“Just come back from staying at this cottage with our two dogs, the location and cottage is great, pub serves great food with a spa over the road providing everything you need, and just a walk away, walks are stunning and local villages aren’t far, Windermere is a definite must!”

! We loved the set up of the cottage with the downstairs upstairs, the rooms are big and the lounge is bright with an uppey sofa, very comfy, the kitchen has everything you need and the garden is very dog safe, The only thing we would say on arrival we noticed the downstairs smelt very musty / damp and the back bedroom bed is very uncomfortable, we put it down to all the foliage on the wall causing the damp smell, the main photo needs updating as the foliage now covers the front wall, and could do with a tidy up.but it does look very quaint across the doorway. The brewer is a must, this can be seen from the lounge window along with cafe and cycle store, excellent ice cream parlour over the road and a beautiful craft shop. Truly a beautiful village.

I’m aware of the foliage on the walls and we have dealt with Virginia creeper and cut right back. (Even though it can be pretty but also can be evasive & destructive). We had to wait for a gap in bookings before doing garden. I have plans for updating the garden and redoing photos later this year. Property Owner

“This is a lovely well equipped holiday house suitable for six adults or a family.”

Stavely has plenty of shops and places to eat out. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and had excellent meals in the local pubs. I feel the photos do not do justice to the facilities.

“The property was very well presented and clean.”

Our only issue with the property was the Bed downstairs where the shower room was located. The right hand side of the bed, the springs were poking out. And no one was not able to sleep on this side at all. We did have a lovely stay at the cottage and really enjoyed our 2 week break, weather was Perfect. Thanks and Kind regards

“Our second visit to Jakanori.”

As with the first visit last year we were pleased with our choice. Love the upside down living accommodation. Facilities in the cottage are great. Locally you couldn’t ask for more - pubs, brewery, artisan bakery, shops. And best of all, beautiful local walks. Cross with ourselves for not visiting Kimi’s Gelato so we will have to make a return visit! Many thanks to Dot for providing all of the property information.

“Well kitted out.”

Mostly warm and cosy, although 2 of the bedrooms were cold even with heating on. One of the bedrooms had a bit of mould on a wall and wardrobes smelled foisty. Tea bags and some dishwasher tablets left, but most cottages we've been to have left fresh milk, biscuits and sometimes a bottle of wine, which has been a lovely addition. It would have been nice if there had been some Xmas decorations/tree/lights. Know the village and enjoyed the cottage and village facilities. Even with the few negative comments, would still recommend Jakanori.

“Although the accommodation was clean, there were no cleaning products that we could have used to keep the place in a clean condition - not even a toilet cleaner.”

There was a rather ancient iron but no ironing board cover to go on the ironing board. This is also the first accommodation we have ever been to where a simple welcome pack was not given - milk, local biscuits and perhaps a bottle of wine. We understand that Covid has had a lot to do with this but other things have been put back in place - maps, games, soft furnishings etc. The interior of the house was ok but the outside was a mess. Plant pots with dead plants and a garden hose just thrown onto the floor and into a large container was just lying around. We understand that it is autumn but a little thought to clear this up would have been better. We had to alter the heating times as we are pensioners and need to be warm but on Wednesday the heating times had been changed back and we were cold again during the day. This is not what we would have expected, to have the heating times altered without letting us know. Staveley is a nice place to visit but unfortunately we wouldn’t return to Jakanori

Thank you for your feedback and your comments have been noted. I am sorry to hear your stay at Jakanori was disappointing. Our aim is to make sure everyone’s stay is memorable for the right reasons. Health and safety regulations require cleaning materials to be kept out of harms way. The heating is a “Nest” system which is preset for the week, therefore each day it will revert to the settings programmed. Contact numbers are left at the cottage should the need arise to resolve any issue immediately. Sykes are another point of contact. “A lovely clean spacious cottage, with everything you need.”

Well situated for getting about, and for local amenities, shops, fish shop, pub,post office , cafe's etc. Very dog friendly, even provided towels for dogs, although we had our own, so didn't use. Overall an enjoyable stay, and felt very comfortable when got back to the cottage. Our 2 dogs enjoyed it too. The caretaker was very friendly and helpful.

Really enjoyed the break in an ideal location. The only real difficulty was that there was no microwave oven. All we had was a note in the accommodation to say, "The microwave is broken and will be replaced ASAP." That really wasn't a helpful note as the microwave was not replaced during our stay. A microwave is after all one of the main appliances in the kitchen that we all rely on these days. It's disappointing that this was not replaced as soon as it was found to be broken. We were so pleased with everything else but this was the only issue that should have been easily rectified. A microwave was listed as being one of the items available in the property, so sadly you didn't fulfil your contract with us. Paul Stevenson

Staveley is a thriving village everything to hand, butcher, baker grocers and cafe etc. Everything you need in the kitchen well provided. Comfortable beds and plenty of storage. We could not use the shower upstairs it is scalding hot and you cannot adjust it, this needs attention. Otherwise everything fine.

“Comfortable,charming place in a very quiet village.”

Lovely pub and chippy! Loved how the large window in the living area looked up the main street and bedrooms are mostly on the ground floor. All facilities were spot on and the cottage was warm and cosy. Looked through a music book from 1946 whilst in there,fascinating.Loved the presence of a piano and wish we'd brought the pianist in the family! Overall comfy stay in a great location.

“The house was very clean with everything you need but the heating was not effective downstairs especially in the bedroom to the right of the front door my clothes were damp after one night in the wardrobe We booked 3 nights and left after one because we wanted our holiday to be eating out so on our first night we went to the Eagle and Child big sign no food because no staff asked if they would have food on Tuesday no was the answer so we walked to Hawkshead Brewery same thing no Brewery tours or food.”

Next the chip shop closes Monday and Tuesday Wilfs cafe was closed by then. So we decided to return home because the town was dead nothing to do except walks and we booked because we wanted to walk to restaurants where you could take dogs

Excellent location in the middle of the village. The house was spotless & comfy. The washing machine & dryer was invaluable & the kitchen was very well equipped. Lots of hanging storage throughout. Garden was big enough to sit out & we fit a polo car in the yard at the same time! Very secure garden for our dog.

“We loved the location and thankfully there is lots of parking over the road, we didn't realise that the drive doesn't actually fit a car in but you couldn't have both a car and the patio for the dogs.”

The only thing that was missing were bigger sized glasses for water all glasses were small or very slim. Nothing major but definitely enough of a pain to warrant mentioning- we just used our water bottles instead. :-D We would love to book here again!

“The house was very clean really upon arrival.”

However, there was a very damp smell in the downstairs front bedroom, particularly in the wardrobe - so much so that myself and my husband didn't want to unpack our clean clothes into it but rather shared the wardrobe in the other ground floor bedroom - the smell did not go away throughout the week and was very noticeable - I feel this is an on-going issue as there was a plug-in air freshener and an air freshener on the dresser in this room. We also found the space a little unequal - the bedrooms were roomy but the main living area/ kitchen was very tight for our party of two adults and two teenagers - we had to extend the table out into the living area so we could all sit around the table to eat - I'm not sure how a party of 6 would manage. That said, the house was clean and well provided for in terms of equipment etc. The main plus of the property is it's location. Staveley has lots to offer - fab bakery, butchers, Spar, ice cream shop, pub (although we didn't eat there), lovely walks on the doorstep, railway station, bus route and very accessible to lots of attractions. I would recommend Jakanorie but I do think the owner's need to address the damp issue properly.

Jakanori was clean and extremely comfortable. Dot, the owner had contacted me with all relevant information I would require prior to my stay. Milly (my dog) and I really enjoyed the walks around staveley. I did the walk to Windermere on my last day would recommend, had a walk around Windermere and Bowness and got the bus back (only time during my stay used any form of transport). Would highly recommend anyone to stay, both in Jakanori and Staveley.

“It’s a pity that bad review of this place can’t be removed, it nearly put us off booking!”

The house was fabulous, clean, pet friendly and a brilliant location in the heart of the village. It was well equipped and comfortable. We did struggle initially to get the downstairs bedrooms warm but eventually worked out the heating. It was so nice to have a place where we didn’t have to worry about the dog dirtying the carpets, there is hard flooring throughout and plenty of dog towels in the settle in the hall. Also a relief that the garden is walled so secure. It’s a small area but the owner has lots and borders so it’s a nice space. Great walks around the village as well and along the river. Brilliant location for exploring the Lakes. The village of Stavely is a great location with a Spar, bakery, brewery, butcher, chip shop, pub and gelato ice cream shop. We didn’t have time to visit everything on our doorstop so we need to do a return visit. We couldn’t have wished for any more. A clean well appointed property.

“Overwhelming smell of urine as soon as entered property.”

Absolutely horrendous. Also horrific smell coming from wardrobe in bedroom. Could not sleep for the smell. Garden over grown with nettles and weeds, broken pots and slates littered the floor, thorns hanging over seating area cut my husband’s hand. Old dog waste on floor. I had to pick up in bag before I could bring my dog in. Went home a night early. Had quite enough.

A great place from which to explore Windermere, Ambleside and Kendal. We would recommend a visit Lakeland Farm approx 1 mile towards Windermere. A great and affordable day out for all the family which included sheep shearing, dry stone walling and a number of other activities. There is also a good cafe and wonderful farm shop

Great scenery and lovely walks on doorstep. House very quaint bring upside down. 2 double rooms and bathroom downstairs and a twin room and bathroom upstairs. Lovely big windows in living kitchen dining area. Hot water always available and fab electric showers. Loved having a tumble dryer to help on wet days. Great to be dog friendly. Staveley a lovely place to base yourself for a trip to the Lake District.

People in the village very friendly and little bakery in the post office had a good selection of home made pies, pasties, sausage rolls, slices, croissants also naughty cakes. The spar was well stocked and had everything we needed including toilet roll!! Although our stay fell within the current crisis (Covid19) and didn't get to enjoy Wilf's café we had drinks in the Hawkshead brewery and a nice meal in the Eagle & Child pub before closing that evening, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“Wow what a pleasant SURPRISE!”

We booked this cottage over 9 months in advance but after reading feedback left in October 2019, we were worried and apprehensive about staying in this cottage as we have major health and breathing problems. We need not to have worried at all. JAKANORI was a very special cottage indeed. Warm and Extremely Cosy. It has everything you would ever want or need to make your holiday one to remember. There was NO DAMP or DAMP aroma at all, the cottage is decorated to a high standard. The bedrooms on the ground floor were fantastic, The beds felt very firm and supportive, on inspection the mattresses were actually orthopaedic/posturpaedic, Good Quality Sleeping and my Back Aches actually improved. We are very fussy about having good facilities, especially with TV & Broadband, we are pleased to report that the TV worked just fine. The Broadband was superfast and we are so grateful for that. 1 Hour download from I player in 3 minutes. My wife who is Registered Blind, found the house very easy to navigate, I myself are Disabled and can not walk far at all but even managed to get upstairs as they are extra wide and not so many steps. It was so good, that we have actually booked again, but for 3 weeks this time. The stinging feedback left in October did not Ring true to our stay at all. Like most homes their could be one or two jobs that could be addressed, but nothing major! We really enjoyed our time here in JAKANORI and Staveley itself is a Small Cumbrian Village, lovely quality butchers across the road, chemist, newsagents, post office and a Spar. Wilf's Cafe lovely food and a lovely Artisan bakery just around the corner and hey just 4 miles from Windermere! Our doggies enjoyed it too, we felt they were safe and secure in the yard. JAKANORI Even has a Piano to tinkle on, If only I could play! One thing we were extremely impressed with was the quality of the build and especially the glazing, we hardly heard a thing from outside at all. Everything in the cottage was so lovely and clean from the towels, bedding and the general feel of JAKANORI was truly sparkling. On the day we departed we met the housekeepers, 3 of them who were extremely helpful and so friendly. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all for a wonderful holiday and also to Sykes as they are always there to help you if needed, This was our 4th Holiday booked through SYKES...........AMAZING!!!!!!!

“The television is very difficult to watch as it needs a signal booster to stop the pictures jumping about and clicking all the time.”

One of the mattresses is very hard and we woke up with back ache. The best thing was the electric chairs which I would definitely recommend after being out all day. Our only other concern was the bedroom on the side could do with better blinds as people could see in when walking past especially if we had the lights on. Apart from that,the cottage is very convenient for the Lake District and has shops and pubs close to walk to.

Thank you for your feedback. Due to the geographical location of the property, TV reception in general in this area is not the best. I am currently researching as a priority the best option to provide a solution to this issue. I was surprised to read your comments regarding the bed, as reviews received from previous guests have commented on the beds being comfortable. Yesterday I spoke with the cleaner and was advised that on checking the mattress for signs of damage which may cause discomfort to the person sleeping in the bed, that the mattress had had been turned over. The mattress allocated to this bed should not be turned, hence the reason you experienced an uncomfortable night's sleep. The blinds to the side bedroom are black out blinds and therefore, if closed people should not be able to see through. I will check the blinds are fit for purpose and if not, these will be replaced. Thank you for your feedback. Previous guest reviews have not mentioned a damp smell in the cottage however, this will be investigated and if proven, resolved accordingly. Part of the charm of cottage is the building is old and parts of the original old thick walls still exist. This is a feature in the bedroom. Property Owner

“A beautifully furnished cottage with exceptionally comfortable armchairs & beds.”

We will definitely book Jakanori again as not only did we feel welcome but also our 3 little dogs. The owner had even provided large towels inside the front door to dry our dogs if they got wet which we really appreciated. The village has a fantastic butchers, bakery, brewery, Spa & chemist so no need to go shopping outside Staveley. Great food at the Eagle & Child.

“3 of us stayed at Jakanori myself,my daughter and a close friend and also 2 dogs, we all loved the cottage had everything we needed and more.”

The small enclosed yard was ideal for the dogs to keep them safe ( could do with a bolt on the gate ). Everyone in the village really friendly and the food in the eagle and child and wilfs cafe was delicious. Also lots of places to walk our 2 dogs alongside the river Kent. Definitely would recommend a stay in this lovely cottage.

“Really enjoyed staying right in the heart of Staveley.”

The 'upside down' house arrangement means there is always something to see out of the large windows. There is also a beautiful Lake District scene out of another. Staveley is much busier than I expected, a bustling little village. The Mill Yard opposite the house is the hub. Artisan bakery, brewery, two cafes and the largest (and expensive) bike shop in the country. If you like coffee, there is a specialist coffee shop just across the road, as well a local butchers and handy well stocked Spar. Lots of walking available from the door, or you can travel a short distance to the heart of the Lakes. Bus and train service from Staveley as well. House was very well equipped, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. Outside space is fully enclosed. We enjoyed living there and will return.

“The cottage was everything we needed for our annual gathering.”

The fact that the cottage could accommodate our dogs was the reason for booking. Cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Location was ideal for exploring the area. In fact we used public transport and did not use the cars all week. The village had great eating places and artisan outlets. The brewery was fantastic!! Will be returning.

“I really liked the house and would go back there again.”

It was very clean and tidy, and had lovely bed linen, towels etc. The location is great; the village is very accessible, is very handy for hiking (from the doorstep if you want) and the house is right in the middle of the village. Very near to a Spar, pharmacy, several coffee shops, a bakery and the popular Hawkshead Brewery. The Eagle Inn pub within close walking distance can also be highly recommended - we had one good dinner and an exceptionally good Sunday lunch there. The house had a "Nest" heating system, which responded quickly to any adjustments, but while upstairs got very warm and cosy, the ground floor (which had 2 of the 3 bedrooms) was rather cold. This was the only problem we had though, and I was very happy with my booking, in spite of this.

The shops were across the road and the walks from the door were plentiful. The local people were friendly and helpful. Staveley is only a few minutes drive from Windermere and the rest of the Lakes. I would use this cottage again.

“Cottage was clean, tidy, really well equipped.”

Fantastic view of the sky and main street from kitchen and lounge window. Beds were comfortable and kitchen really well laid out. The cottage is located right in the middle of Staveley, within walking distance of all essential amenities and shops and down to the River Kent. Great walks from this spot too. Super easy to get to Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere. Bus runs from outside the cottage although we didn't use it. Parking was right outside cottage. The enclosed front garden was good for the dog too.

“What a fabulous cottage in an amazing location, it ticked every box and more!”

Everything you could want from maps to plan walks to every possible thing you will ever need in the kitchen. Our dogs loved it and settled straight away, the garden was the perfect space to let them out and not worry. Hawkshead brewery and eagle and child well worth a visit, a little further is the watermill at Ings, superb. Can’t wait to come back.

“My only negative comments are: 1) instructions re refuse collection would be useful.”

A neighbour informed us when the bins were to be collected but the required contents of recycling were unknown to us and the bin was not collected. 2) the directions to the property were incorrect. They should have read: Leave M6 at J 36, take A590/591 towards Windermere. Take first turn to Staveley and turn right immediately after Spa supermarket. Property is on the immediate right on corner. Ignore road to Hawkshead Brewery.

“The cottage is very central to the village of Staveley and overlooks a fantastic coffee shop - it is extremely close to the Brewery and to all other amenities and the pub is easily walkable.”

The cottage had almost everything you could need, hidden in cupboards all over the place, and it all worked really well. Three good sized bedrooms, in fact the downstairs doubles are huge, and the walk in shower is now on our list of wants. Lovely views and very light and full of air. Lots of local places to walk the dog and it's safe to say that the Lake District is the most dog friendly region I have ever visited!

“The house was very well equipped and nicely decorated and we loved the upstairs living room.”

Although we didn't use it, the piano was an unexpected extra. We were very grateful for the reclining chairs after our days out walking. The house had a good selection of information about local walks which were easy to follow and our dog loved. We had a great week with excellent weather and would love to return another year. Staveley is a gem of a village. There is a community shop and artisan bakery close by and a Spar and very good post office a stone's throw from the house. The people in the PO were very helpful too. Hawkshead Brewery and Wilf's cafe are close by and well worth a visit. There were also a couple more coffee shops that we intended to try but sadly didn't have time. A nice butcher's, a yummy fish and chip shop, the Eagle and Child pub (also well worth a visit) and a very handy recycling centre complete the amenities. The train station was handy for a day trip to Windermere to follow in Wainwright's footsteps up to Orrest Head and the spectacular views.

Lovely walks from the village, great Pub, Fish and chip shop, store. Lovely new area with an artisan bakery and cafes. The cottage is homely, spacious for family and or friends, 2 showers and 2 seperate toilets, clean, with a court yard garden for dogs early morning last thing at night. Definitely recommend and would return again.

This reverse-level cottage is situated in the vibrant village of Staveley on the edge of the Lake District National Park, providing a perfect base for a family holiday with excellent village amenities on the doorstep. As you step inside there are two bedrooms, a cloakroom and a wet room on the groundfloor with stairs leading to an open plan living area, a twin bedroom and a shower room. From the living area there are views down the village street to the fells beyond. Outside, there is a front enclosed courtyard and furniture where you can sit back and relax before heading out to explore this pretty corner of Cumbria. From the cottage you can easily explore the beautiful Kentmere valley both on foot or bicycle with routes including the Kentmere Horseshoe. The climb up Reston Scar, although steep, will reward you with beautiful views across the South Lakes. Just a stones throw away is Staveley Mill Yard which has a brewery, bicycle shop, a cookery school, artisan bakers and a café. There is also an excellent village pub so it is possible you may arrive here and never move your car as everything is literally on hand. A visit to Lake Windermere is a must and this beautiful lake is just 5 miles away. From Bowness-on-Windermere you can hop on board the Windermere Steamer and cruise up the lake to the popular Lakeland town of Ambleside at the head of the lake or down to Lakeside and visit the Aquarian of the Lakes. This lovely holiday cottage makes a great base for a super, family holiday.
