Looking for something to do in the lakes doesn’t take long. Me and my boyfriend fancied venturing a little bit further down the lakes to visit somewhere we had not been before. We eventually (after lots of various ideas) decided to visit South Lakes Aquarium. This was only a 1nr 10min drive from Keswick but it felt like another world when we arrived.
The aquarium is set on the Lakeside of Windermere with the car park looking straight onto the lake giving you a big smile on your face before you have even got out of the car. We arrived fairly early and were lucky enough to catch the Otters feeding time.
We then strolled round the aquarium enjoying the fish and other species that habbitatted there.
Once we had our fill of the wildlife we then headed next door for lunch. The café was set above the lake giving you lovely views of Lake Windermere. There is also a launch service from Lakeside which takes you North up Windermere if you wish to leave your car and venture into the heart of the lakes.
Even if you are staying in the Northern Lake District the South is only a short drive away and would defiantly consider making the drive again to visit the aquarium and other attractions in the South Lakes.
