Adventures of Cumbrian Blondie has shared her blog with us after her stay at our Duke of Portland Boathouse, Ullswater. We loved reading about how much Gina has enjoyed her stay and seeing the photographs!
I was very lucky to stay here back in October 2015. I had always been intrigued to what the most photographed boathouse in the lakes looked like inside. I was completely blown away by its beautiful interior and of course that view. https://adventuresofcumbrianblondie.co.uk/2015/10/20/staycation/
I was so upset when the terrible storms the Lake District experienced in December took its toll on this property. Storm Desmond and his friends completely battering the lakes taking no prisoners. The water swept through the property almost submerging it.
Once things had dried out and the biblical storms halted, the clean up process began. Almost 6 months after the floods and the boathouse was ready for guests. David rang me to say would I like to stay and see the renovation? After I thought about it for about 2 seconds hell yes was the reply.
Julia has done an amazing job with the house. I was running around the house like an excited child looking at all the changes. It was stunning before but the changes in the room plan have taken it to another level.
Being in Pooley Bridge was a perfect opportunity to catch up with friends, locals Richard, Susan, Rob and Ruth. A cheeky beer and a few snaps before they arrived for drinks and a nosey.
Dinner date was at the locally renovated 1863 Elm House. It’s been completely transformed over the winter. It looks stunning. They had only opened on the previous Saturday.
Delicious food, top company and excellent hosts made for a fabulous night. I did say to Mark the owner, I hope we weren’t too loud! He said not and was nice to see people enjoying themselves.
Back to our holiday home for a good nights sleep.
I had planned on getting up to see the sunrise to reinact this picture I took last time. But the sun rise at this time of year is far too early, even for this early riser! Especially when I only got to bed at 12.30am.
Couldn’t not have an early morning bath in the tub with an amazing view.
Breakfast on the balcony, I so didn’t want to leave here to go to work.
A few more snaps before heading off to adult day care aka work.
A huge thank you to David for letting us stay here, you have done the most amazing job with the property. I’m completely in love with the place.
Take my word for it you won’t be disappointed.
