Lochside is a stunning 5* luxurious cottage sitting on the banks of the loch, with private HOT TUB, and a Garden Apartment for additional guests and use of the boathouse. Furnished and equipped to cater for your every need and with a variety of activities within a short drive you will long to return year after year once you have discovered this gem of a cottage.
The owner has shared a blog on their cottage Lochside, from purchasing to renovating to holiday letting.
As I stand here (the oldest pool boy in the northern hemisphere!) cleaning the hot tub, it’s worth reflecting on our first six months as owners of a holiday property.
My advice to anyone thinking of doing it would be very simple. Do your research. Then do it again! Then when you think you have all the information you need and you’ve covered everything, ask the experts!
We have been very fortunate to stay with friends in their timeshare at Glenmor, part of the Gleneagles hotel. Gorgeous. Could we do something similar?
Location: Dumfries and Galloway – Countryfile’s holiday destination of the year 2016.
Size: D & G has very few large properties.
Quality: Average Star rating in D &G is 3 stars.
Largest growth area: The three generational holiday.
Surely there was a need for a large, luxury 5 star property which could cater for large family/group holidays.
So we took the plunge and bought a 5/7 bedroom property, on a loch, with its own boathouse and jetty – right in the centre of the holiday destination of the year. (What could be simpler!)
My wife seemed to find no difficulty in the challenge of furnishing a house to a luxury standard. I am now well versed in the finer points of 600 Thread Counts, Harris Tweed furniture, and of course a Nespresso Machine (George Clooney not included !!).
Then I remember Julia’s first words as I sat down with her and David to discuss the plan.
“You simply must have a hot tub”
It had never crossed my mind but, “have you got a hot tub?” was almost universally the first question asked by family and friends when they found out what we were doing.
Surely it couldn’t be that difficult?
Like most of us, I liked to chuckle at those “silly” people on Grand Designs who have spectacularly gone “over-budget” with a project they have taken on. Pride of course does come before a fall!
This was my “Oh my god, what have we done” moment, as I watched the digger finish the 50 yard trench for the water supply to the hot tub and bar in the boathouse. Especially as I had originally planned to dig it myself…….with my garden spade!
However with the help of Duncan and his team from Solway Spas the hot tub finally squeezed its way to its spot in pride of place overlooking the loch.
Our first guests have just left and have given us some fabulous feedback, having spent most of the week kayaking, fishing from the jetty or of course relaxing in the hot tub. We hope all our future guests love it too.
Anyway its tea-break time, from cleaning the hot tub, and, as I sit on the edge of the jetty looking at a mirror calm loch, watching a heron fly by, the question is – “has it been worth it?”
Absolutely – but then I am a wee bit biased!
Next month: ….”The finest walk in Scotland”
