This well appointed, romantic cottage is sure to appeal to those who want to get away from it all. Located on the Coast to Coast walking route this former barn is ideally based to explore by bike the quiet country lanes and yet is within easy driving distance of the Lake District National Park.
Located high on the fells (1000ft) midway between Shap and the pretty village of Crosby Ravensworth, The Cow House has wonderful views across the Eden Valley to the Pennines towering above to the east and High Street and the Lake District National Park Fells to the West. It is a 15 minute drive to Haweswater and only 20 minutes to Penrith and Ullswater. The cottage is also on the Coast to Coast long distance walking path and is ideally located for those who enjoy taking advantage of the country lanes by bicycle.
The Cow House is in the grounds of the 17th century farmhouse, is refurbished from the original byre to retain a wealth of character features, with a light and airy, contemporary feel. The owner has managed to use her interior design skills to blend with the historical features to provide a luxuriously appointed, romantic cottage that is sure to be appreciated by those looking for a peaceful “bolthole”. There is a small, walled garden with raised decking accessed from the lounge with superb views to Cross Fell and the High Pennines, an ideal place to relax and unwind after a day's exploring or to have a BBQ.
The accommodation is oil centrally-heated and comprises:
- Spacious open-plan living area with cruick beams, blond oak exposed floor boards, cosy wood burning stove, maps and books on local history, flat screen Sky TV/DVD/iPod dock with digital radio and CD player and sliding doors to the decking with superb rural outlook to the adjoining fields. The cottage is Wi Fi-d. A particular feature throughout are the ancient ventilators in the roof.
- Well-equipped dining/kitchen with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, fridge and glass table.
- Utility room with freezer, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer, and an ideal drying room (perfect dog retreat).
- Spacious bedroom with super King size bed which can be made into twin beds, with flat screen Freesat TV and CD player with surround sound, magnificent beamed ceiling with Velux windows.
- Stunning, luxuriously appointed bathroom with under floor heating and relaxing interchangeable lighting effect from the chandelier to blue LEDs under the low metal “Bette” bath with shower attachment, walk-in shower, hand basin and WC.
- All electric, oil, bed linen and towels provided.

- The owners provide secure storage and hose pipe for cleaning bicycles after a day meandering through the country lanes or off-roading.
