Lantern House is centrally located overlooking the Market Place of Alston, the highest market town in England. Ideal for large families, two families or larger groups the town house is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is on the Coast 2 Coast cycle route and the Pennine Way.

A newly refurbished four storey period townhouse dating from the 17th Century located in the conservation area of Alston overlooking the cobbled Front Street, Market Place and Market Cross with a wealth of amenities on the doorstep, the townhouse provides ideal holiday accommodation for families or groups with spacious accommodation over four floors.

Alston is steeped in history and was recently featured in the filming of Oliver Twist, starring Julie Walters, due to its characterful cobbled streets and period architecture. Local attractions include the South Tynedale narrow gauge railway, The Hub transport museum, the Lead Mining Heritage Centre at Nenthead and Killhope Water Wheel all located nearby. It has numerous nature walks to explore the surrounding landscapes, rivers, waterfalls, woodlands and wildlife. Gossipgate walk with the Seven Sisters waterfall, Ashgill Force waterfall and the old railway line to Haltwhistle provide some good walks including to the magnificent Lambley viaduct which once carried the railway line over the river.

The narrow gauge railway travels into Northumberland as we are close to the boundary and although located in the South Tyne valley Alston is close to the Eden Valley, Weardale, Yorkshire Dales and Upper Teesdale with High Force one of the most spectacular waterfalls in England.

Lantern House is located by St Augustine’s Church of England with St Wulstan’s Catholic Church, used also by the Methodists, being located close by in the town.

Yadmoss Ski Centre, situated 7 miles from Alston on the B6277 Alston to Middelton-in-Teesdale road, has a fast Poma button tow and up to eight ski runs. Alston Moor Golf Club has a nine hole golf course which affords beautifully views up and down the South Tyne Valley and welcomes visitors. Alston Moor Fitness Club operate a small gym located on the playing field and this welcome guests while the nearby village of Garrigill has St John’s indoor heated swimming pool with sauna and Jacuzzi and this available for hire.

Sinderhope pony trekking centre and Sockbridge pony trekking centre are located less than half an hour’s drive from Alston.

The Townhouse had been fully refurbished to a high standard and is decorated and furnished in a contemporary style. It will sleep up to 8 with two double beds, one single bed, two bunk beds and guest bed to the children’s play room.

  • Lounge overlooking the Market Place with easy seating, flame effect electric fire and wall mounted flat screen television.
  • Utility room with sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, WC and hand basin. It also has plenty of space for outdoor clothing and footwear storage.

  • First Floor: Kitchen/dining room equipped with oven, glass ceramic hob, microwave, two fridges (one with freezer compartment), dishwasher and dining area overlooking the Front Street and Market Place.
  • Children’s playroom with games, wall mounted flat screen television, DVD player and guest bed if required.

  • Second Floor: Double bedroom
  • Bedroom with 3/4 bed.
  • Bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC.

  • Third Floor: Double and bunk bedroom both with exposed roof trusses.
  • Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, hand basin and WC

  • All gas, electricity and bed linen provided.
  • Cot and highchair available.
  • Free internet access.
  • Unreserved parking in the Market Place
