Why book a cottage in Carlisle?
Sharing a border with Scotland, the city of Carlisle is an ideal base for a holiday cottage. It’s close to two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, countless attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can head off for the day and explore the rural countryside and then return to your Carlisle cottage, close to a host of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Carlisle is steeped in history and can trace its origins back 2,000 years when it was occupied by an outpost of Hadrian’s Wall. This World Heritage Site, also known as the Roman Wall, stretches for 73 miles from coast to coast. It’s a fantastic spot for walking as well as giving you the opportunity to discover historic remains of forts and settlements. You can follow the wall west from Carlisle to the Solway Coast AONB or head east to the North Pennines. It’s also not far from the Lake District - travel south and explore the towns and villages of Cockermouth, Pooley Bridge and Bassenthwaite.
There are also plenty of things to do in Carlisle itself. Re-trace hundreds of years worth of history at Carlisle Castle or spend time looking at the vast collection of art and exhibitions at Tullie House. There are also cinemas, leisure centres and a laser quest - a holiday cottage in Carlisle really does have everything to suit the whole family.
