  • “A really lovely cottage; generous in space and well equipped with kitchen tools, nice linen and a thoughtful and interesting choice of games/books/dvds.”

The (shared) games room and drying room are nice ‘extras’ too. WiFi doesn’t work (we were informed beforehand) and 4g signal is slow but this just added to the ‘get away from everything’ feel that the location suggests. If you want to enjoy the Lakes without the hordes then this is a great choice- off the beaten track in a less busy area, but with the convenience of Keswick down the road. Skiddaw is a good walk from the front door, and the Bassenthwaite a very short drive away- we had several great days with the canoe and SUP, swimming and chilling out (permits can be bought easily online). We’ve bookmarked this place as one for a repeat visit- the house next door can also be linked which is great for a future family meet up.

The property

Keswick 8.8 miles.

On the edge of the Skiddaw Fells in the Lake District National Park, north of Keswick is this charming cottage offering a homely abode to rest in while you explore the Lakes.

Low Melbecks Cottage is wonderfully suited to a family or group of four, with two bedrooms and spacious rooms, you will love returning to this snug spot each day.

A modern take on a country-style kitchen makes the kitchen/diner a harmonious space, with hues of creams and grey atop of stone tiled floors, and home to several appliances, you will be getting stuck into making delicious dishes in no time.

Once you have all tucked into a hearty meal at the dining table, move the conversation into the sitting room, where you can carry on the party with the woodburning stove roaring in the background as you settle onto the sofas, and later why not put on a classic film favourite on the Smart TV.

Sit out on the patio furniture in the summertime for a refreshing drink, or head into the external shared games room where a pool table rests within the large glass panes.

Retire to the bedrooms for some well-earned rest and find a romantic and homely king-size room, offering a welcoming sleeping spot with plenty of storage for your things.

Completing this first floor is the twin bedroom, thoughtfully decorated and well-presented, and the tiled bathroom offering a refreshing space to begin the day.

Low Melbecks Cottage is perfectly placed for enjoying a host of attractions and magnificent fells, complete a walk up Skiddaw or Blencathra, visit the Castlerigg Stone Circle or amble around Bassenthwaite Lake, all providing glorious scenery of this unspoilt haven.

Go to the Lake District Wildlife Park to visit over 100 species of animals within a 25-acre setting, or for adults take a tour around The Lakes Distillery and test some of the products, found near the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Low Melbecks Cottage is a delightful cottage, providing quality accommodation for those who love the Lakes.
