The cleanliness of the apartment was disappointing. It had clearly not been cleaned properly prior to our arrival: food crumbs in fridge and on floor & settee, sticky table, cooking pots were not properly cleaned and the black coating was starting to come off, the only decent pot was not suitable for the type of hob (induction), tissues left in bins, dust around the place etc. Mentioning this on the first trip to reception, to get bedding for the sofa bed that had not been set up, a list was ...

It had clearly not been cleaned properly prior to our arrival: food crumbs in fridge and on floor & settee, sticky table, cooking pots were not properly cleaned and the black coating was starting to come off, the only decent pot was not suitable for the type of hob (induction), tissues left in bins, dust around the place etc. Mentioning this on the first trip to reception, to get bedding for the sofa bed that had not been set up, a list was made that was never followed up. It took us three more trips/phone calls to get everything we needed for the sofabed with not a single word of apology. For an area visited to spend outdoors it was really difficult to dry any wet walking gear as there were no hooks anywhere and the hangers could not be moved from the wardrobe. Overall we ended up spending a lot more money on eating out than we had planned for, simply because it all felt a bit grim. It is such a shame as it feels like this place would have been well sought after in it's heyday but it just feels unloved and tired now which could be rectified with a little bit of effort.

“When we arrived we were told that the apartment we had booked was occupied so we agreed to take an equivalent apartment.”

Was not very happy that they had put someone in the apartment we had booked but didn't have a lot of choice. On looking at the apartment we found that it was smaller so agreed a refund with hotel. The apartment was spacious however, despite the fact that it had just been cleaned, the bins in the bedroom and bathroom/ toilet had not been emptied and the bathroom did not look as if it had been cleaned at all. There was black mildew around the bath, soap scum in the tiles and part of the previous inhabitants breakfast on the toilet bowl. The rest of the hotel was generally run down with peeling paintwork and rotting window frames. During my negotiations with the hotel regarding the refund for the change of room, I was also able to see what the actual room price was for the week and how it compared to how much we had paid Sykes. Whist I understand that sykes need to make a profit, I feel the markup was excessive for the service provided. Sykes need to bear in mind that on signing for the property at the Hotel, its customers have full view of the cost.

“I have already sent emails and attempted to contact Sykes many times in the last week and so far have had no meaningful response to the very serious allegations about the apartment we stayed in at Derwent Manor as per the emails sent and the promise that you take complaints up with the owners blah, blah, blah.”

Trying to contact you by phone is extremely difficult, time consuming and often just doesn't happen. I am still waiting for Sykes to confirm whether the place we stayed in have confirmed that they wish to make a refund as promised of 50% of our payment in exchange for us cleaning the apartment and staying for our 4 night stay.

“The property is in a great position,attractive gardens with a delightful walk down to the lake side and stunning views.”

the downside to this positive is that the whole place is shabby with window boxes falling apart and full of weeds ,a front door to the entrance to the apartments in desperate need of a coat of paint ,piles of junk to the rear of the hotel,just these few things could be addressed in a day.the apartment was great ,very spacious and in the most part clean however the carpets were tired and stained ,the front windows would not close properly with a damaged latch,the kitchen has one double socket for four appliances with the kettle behind the microwave due to the kettles short lead, we had to use the toaster on the floor! All of this was brought to the attention of the very friendly and helpful staff and duly noted . the main thing is we had good weather and we enjoyed our stay,with some very basic improvements we would return.

“The property was quite clean but given current COVID situation I did expect it to be spotless!”

! It does need a little sprucing up as kitchen and bathroom looked “tired”. There is plenty of room for 2 ... not sure it’d be suitable for 4 ( if 2 couples) as bathroom is off bedroom and second couple would be sleeping in living room Shower hose not high enough for 6ft male but ok for me. Towel rail didn’t heat up but didn’t complain as radiators worked ok. Good location though and easy stroll into Keswick.
