“This was a highly disappointing accommodation that was shabby, unclean and lacked many of the basic facilities.”
It bore little resemblance to its Sykes website portrayal. For instance, the paint and wallpaper was peeling off in places; there were not enough kitchen utensils; the front door lock was broken (we made the manager come out and fix it himself); a heated towel rail didn't work; the bathroom sink shelf was completely missing; the hob light didn't work; many of the pans were the wrong sort and didn't work on the induction hob (!!); the boiler unit leaked over the kitchen worktop and microwave at night: the kitchen window was splashed with muck on the outside and full of cobwebs on the inside (we made the manager come out and clean this); and there were other things, too. Most significantly in these covid times, the apartment was UNCEAN - for instance, there were significant food stains on the wall of the kitchen around the bin (and no bin liner provided for the bin); the carpets had not been vacuumed anywhere in the apartment; we had to put all the crockery and cutlery through the dishwasher because some items were patently unclean; the three piece suite was dirty; and a half used toilet roll was on the holder (there should be brand new ones for new guests out of basic hygiene). We alerted the manager to the various issues and left a list with him when we departed; but we didn't visit the Lake District for five days to spend all of it trying to rectify a shoddy apartment. We are very surprised that Sykes lists this sub standard accommodation and invite you to go and check it for yourself. It seriously lets you down and leaves us wondering what your other promoted properties are like. Please will you respond to our points in full. Thanks. Andrew & Penny McCloy
