“Wow, we booked the holmedell cabin for a relaxing break over the Christmas holidays and what a relaxing break it was, first off the cabin itself was better than it appears in the advertising, it has everything we needed inside and more, it’s placed in a lovely quit spot with no passing traffic or people on the edge of a large beautiful pond and the wildlife is a joy to sit and watch, if you want peace and tranquillity here it is.”

The lodge was clean, cosy and comfortable and contained everything we needed and more. It is in a great location and we loved watching the wildlife out of the windows, particularly the red squirrels. Highly recommended this lodge and would love to return.

It had everything and more than what we needed, extremely clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Perfect for a few nights away in the lakes. My parter and dog enjoyed the wildlife while i enjoyed the peace with a glass of wine. It was perfect.

“This place should be available on prescription as a cure for the stresses of life.”

The location was perfect for exploring the Lakes from the coast to the top of the highest mountain in England. There is quite literally everything you need in the lodge which was spotlessly clean and thoughtfully organised. The welcome pack of milk, but juice, wine and beers was a nice gesture too, t The lodge is situated at the end of the site, so no cars are passing, ensuring plenty of privacy too. In addition, there is the pleasure of watching the cheeky red squirrels that turn up throughout the day to feed and scamper about just outside the doorway. Although the weather was not great when we stayed, the lodge is well located to explore other attractions and near local shopping for food or for dining out. We are already planning to return as we felt so at home there.

“Sykes Cottages customer service was really helpful in flexing the start and end rental dates for the lodge (a number of other competitors refused to budge even though they are available!”

). The lodge is situated in a very serene surrounding, away from the busy parts of the lakes, about 20-30 mins drive from Keswick. Lodge is very well equipped and comfortable. Will definitely come back again!

“Have been a number of times now.”

Everything is great,beautiful area And very easy to navigate to from the motorway.Only one disappointing thing the forest is still closed and there is no information on when or if it will open for walking again,this is quite a big factor for us as it was such a beautiful place to walk.However the accommodation is fantastic and I will return in the near future.Highlly recommended. “The lodge is lovely, set in very tranquil surroundings with lots of visiting wildlife.”

There were ample facilities in the accommodation, suited for all weather conditions. Our hosts had left a lovely welcome gift which was much appreciated and it was just a shame we were only there for a few days. Nearby are some beautiful lakes and lots of lovely places to visit. I think if I could suggest a couple of improvements, they'd be a lighter weight duvet as it was far too heavy for the sunny weather conditions and an electric fan would be good. Really enjoyable short break.

The property

Holmdell is in a stylish lodge overlooking the pond at Dukes Meadow.

The Lodge is perfectly based for exploring the Northern Lakes and Eden Valley, ideally located a few minutes off the M6 with Ullswater a 10 minute drive and Keswick just 30 minutes away.

A trip over Kirkstone Pass will not only treat you to some spectacular scenery but will take you down into to the bustling Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere. The park has 30 pine clad lodges, but with only a small few being available as holiday accommodation, this peaceful and charming location is a real gem for tourists.

The trickling stream running through the centre of the park only adds to the tranquility and each lodge has its own garden with views over the countryside to the Lakeland Fells.

There is an abundance of wildlife such as hare, deer and if you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the red squirrels.

The location of the lodges means there are ample walking opportunities from the front door.

The neighbouring Greystoke Forest and the surrounding countryside are all easily accessible, whilst the Lakeland Fells are all within a short drive.

Holmedell is furnished and equipped to cater for all your needs, and as the name suggests, overlooks the small pond, one of the best positions on the park.

The secure gated decking ensures privacy and prevents your four legged friends escaping.

This charming village has a number of 17th Century cottages and is conveniently situated just 5 miles from Penrith. Set just on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park, only 5 miles from Ullswater and the numerous picturesque walks available make this a fabulous location for fans of the outdoors. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering the Theatre on the Lake, a charming cinema, museum, indoor climbing wall and miniature golf. The area also steeped in history with a 10th century church in the village, lovely castle in Penrith and the stunning remains of Lowther Castle. Greystoke provides easy access to the spectacular Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Pennines Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within close proximity, making this a great location with plenty to see and do.
