“In this particular property -- 'Skiddaw View' -- it seemed to us a little odd that so much had been spent to acquire and furnish the place, but so little had been spent on making the kitchen really convenient for anyone who wants to do some real cooking.”
In other words, in the kitchen i think the owners have economised too far, really. There is no real cutting board, for instance -- only a glass sheet which is very hard on their (dull) knives and not appropriate for chopping things; there is no pot large enough to boil water for pasta; no frying pan larger than eight inches or so (so that if you have more than two gammon steaks to fry, for instance, you have to use two pans); there is no drying rack to put on the draining board (I know, I know, there is a dishwasher; but one does not want always to use a dishwasher); and there were no bowls of a good size that you could use as mixing bowls or bowls in which to store left-overs in the fridge. It's a beautiful place, but of at were the owner, I would look at the kitchen with the eyes of a cook and try to make the selection of implements, etc., a bit more like what I have at home.
