    • “The location of the cottage is amazing, the views superb. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired, especially the kitchen. The oven was filthy, we had to buy tinfoil to lay on the oven trays before we could use it, the fridge was also past it's prime too. The overall cleanliness was acceptable however there was a build up of dust around skirting boards and especially around the castors on the beds - this really wouldn't be too difficult to sort as the beds easily move. The parking at the cottage is challenging, this should really be outlined in the information, we struggled to park our large 4x4 (probably fine for smaller cars); had we been aware, this would have affected our choice of cottage. This didn't spoil our week but felt it should be noted that the cottage could have been cleaner. We won't use this cottage again (purely due to it's parking) but would look at others.”

    Mr Edmondson, Bolton, November 2018

    • “Comfortable and warm cottage providing ample facilities. Safe enclosed garden which was ideal for dogs. Stunning views from sun room. Walks accessible from cottage, village and local pub great too.”

    Mrs Ball, Worcester, September 2018

    • “Lovely cosy cottage with amazing views from back garden Near to Keswick and many other places of interest Our two dogs had a wonderful time PS Please defrost the freezer part of the fridge”

    Mrs Sanderson, Shipley, September 2018

    • “Wonderful cottage close enough to Carlisle for my graduation ceremony. Dogs really enjoyed the enclosed garden. Nice touch to have local vet details on the notice board. Stunning views. Excellent laundry room so not having to come home to start all the washing. Really enjoyed a chilled holiday. Thank you.”

    Miss Yates, Dukinfield, July 2018

    • “We loved the open views of Skiddaw and glimpses of the lake from the conservatory which with a southerly aspect provided a beautiful breakfast vista where we could watch the horizon landscape change as the weather closed in and, occasionally, improved!”

    Mr Ferguson, April 2018

Regional Information

BASSENTHWAITE Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles. An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), LAke District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
