“Been to this cottage several times now, in a great area with lovely views.”
Very central for all the places we like to visit. Will be back.
Very central for all the places we like to visit. Will be back. Ps. The shower screen needs replacing, it is loose and water coming under the the rubber.- Mrs Hull, May 2021
“Everything you needed for a relaxing holiday.”
The views are awesome, garden was dog friendly, and there was even internet access.- Ms Mcintyre, September 2020

It was like home from home loved the the views we had shame the weather not very good but it didnt stop us from exploring and the sun inn was great very lovely people- Mrs Mccann, September 2020
Ideal as a base to head out walking each day. The views each morning of Skiddaw were just spectacular. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory each morning, admiring this amazing view and planning the days walk. The cottage was clean and well looked after and the garden perfect for children and definitely dog proof (as there were cows in the neighbouring field that Bob dog was very interested in). However, it might be time to look at getting new beds, as these were uncomfortable and shaped to the last customer. Also, the children's pillows were a little stained. Overall, I would definitely go back and also recommend to a friend.- Mrs Rollerson, August 2020
“Lovely cottage with amazing views.”
Well equipped cottage with everything we needed for our stay.- Mrs Coe, October 2019
“Lovely cosy cottage.”
The view from the conservatory is amazing watching the rain driving over the valley and fells was beautiful, beats the TV every time. The garden is very dog friendly and Figaro has explored and marked every boundary. The only downside to the holiday was the weather which is out of everyone's control. We will definitely book again.- Mrs Beddoes, August 2019
“Need to let renters know how bad parking for 1 car is ie a photo on site , also a better hoover espesialy when you have 3 white dogs, as i hoover every day at home this time of year and struggled to get hairs up, and i wouldnt leave them,, but apart from that the views were amazing weather was great untill last 2 days but enjoyed our time in cottage , was very quiet but thats what we wanted,, pubs near by do lovely food and all staff were friendly , yes id recomend skye hollidays and this cottage .”- Mr Wallis, August 2019
“Been to this cottage several times very cosy great views, have already booked for next year.”
Notice they have change the duvet cover, think maybe the quilt itself should be changed, very flat. It says every year there are recycle bags in shed, but in the five years we have been coming have yet to find them. See you next year Regards- Mrs Hull, May 2019
“My ratings for recommending Sykes and the accuracy of the listing would have been much higher but for having to collect and return the key in Keswick.”
The listing doesn't mention this and you only find out when you have paid the balance. Parking in Keswick on any Saturday is difficult, let alone Saturdays during the Easter holidays and it also takes a small chunk out of the day. I don't know if this is Sykes policy or just this particular cottage but it would put me off booking again and I would check before booking another property. The property itself was lovely. It was clean and comfortable, a little cramped around the dining table but not a problem. We didn't need to use the laundry room but there was a tumble drier also. The garden was a real bonus. We had a small spillage on the conservatory floor and in wiping it up it was obvious the floor had not been cleaned very recently. However, the conservatory was a fabulous asset, being south facing it was warm (and there was a heater if needed) with wonderful views. Lovely to relax in on returning from a long walk. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.- Miss Wilson, April 2019
“We had a fantastic time at Squirrel cottage.”
The garden was enclosed and perfect for our two dogs to run around and play. The tea and biscuits on arrival were a nice touch and all the cups and cutlery were clean. The kitchen was well equipped and fine for making a couple of meals. We loved the view from the garden room and spent most our time in there. We would have liked a couple of foot stools so we could rest our weary legs after a long hike. The double bed was very small which was a shame as the room was plenty big enough for a larger bed. The parking was a little tricky but got easier after a couple of goes. The location was perfect. Within easy walking distance to the pub where the people were friendly, good food and nice real ales. Lots of nice walks on your doorstep and not far from keswick. Overall we had a lovely time and would come again.- Mrs Rymarz, March 2019
“The location of the cottage is amazing, the views superb.”
The cleanliness left a lot to be desired, especially the kitchen. The oven was filthy, we had to buy tinfoil to lay on the oven trays before we could use it, the fridge was also past it's prime too. The overall cleanliness was acceptable however there was a build up of dust around skirting boards and especially around the castors on the beds - this really wouldn't be too difficult to sort as the beds easily move. The parking at the cottage is challenging, this should really be outlined in the information, we struggled to park our large 4x4 (probably fine for smaller cars); had we been aware, this would have affected our choice of cottage. This didn't spoil our week but felt it should be noted that the cottage could have been cleaner. We won't use this cottage again (purely due to it's parking) but would look at others.- Mr Edmondson, November 2018
Thank you for explaining what you have done in response to this feedback. We are very happy with your actions. We are planning on replacing the fridge as we have had problems with the freezer section previously. If we are able to order it and have it delivered would we able to arrange for one of you to attend the property to take delivery? We will discuss timings with you in good time. We will look at the oven trays when we are there at Christmas and make sure there are good serviceable ones in place. Owner relations

“Wonderful cottage close enough to Carlisle for my graduation ceremony.”
Dogs really enjoyed the enclosed garden. Nice touch to have local vet details on the notice board. Stunning views. Excellent laundry room so not having to come home to start all the washing. Really enjoyed a chilled holiday. Thank you.- Miss Yates, July 2018
“We loved the open views of Skiddaw and glimpses of the lake from the conservatory which with a southerly aspect provided a beautiful breakfast vista where we could watch the horizon landscape change as the weather closed in and, occasionally, improved!”- Mr Ferguson, April 2018

About the location
Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.
An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), LAke District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
