  • “Arrived to a friendly welcome at the cottage, I was shown the garden by Mrs Hammond which was a beautiful large area with seating (for when it wasn’t raining), I knew our dogs were going to have a fantastic time.”

Beautifully clean cottage with everything you could want for a comfortable stay and best of all the wifi actually worked.

The property

Situated in the village of Ullock, in Cumbria, resting close to the borders of the Lake District National Park, is this wonderful cottage.

Internally the property has been renovated to provide an exceptional base for touring one of the most beautiful places in the country.

Spend your evenings relaxing and unwinding in the comfort of your own living space, with a Smart TV and Blu-ray DVD player so you can watch a series of movies, or use the second sitting room as a sociable space to relax; or you could enjoy a quiet evening in the cottage surroundings by the river Marron.

Enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal at the dining table and discuss the day's events over a glass of wine, whilst the well-equipped kitchen offers a range of modern appliances to cook up a storm.

A good local pub offers an alternative to home cooking.

The washer/dryer means you don't have to bring your whole wardrobe along with you!

Look forward to retiring to one of the two well-presented bedrooms, a double and twin, both of which are supported by a family bathroom where you can choose between a bath and separate shower cubicle.

Nearby the thriving town of Cockermouth provides an exceptional range of traditional eateries for some fine food options, as well as a variety of independent shops and supermarkets for all of your needs.

Here you will also find the National Trust property of Wordsworth House and garden for a look at the famous poet's life and works in his 18th century home.

This is the perfect place to enjoy some of the country's finest rural sights, including Loweswater, Crummock Water, Ennerdale and Wastwater and the surrounding fells, all of which offer ample walking and hiking opportunities.

The nearby coast is home to the Georgian town of Whitehaven, famous for it's association with the Rum trade and vibrant harbour.

Other coastal towns and villages offer scenic walks and a range of attractions.

Further afield is the bustling town of Keswick, which features the Theatre by the Lake, Derwent Pencil Museum, the Keswick Museum and rests close to the Castlerigg Stone Circle, all boasting a wealth of history.

For the adventurous there are many opportunities to try new activities and Derwentwater is ideal for those looking for some lakeside walks and activities.

For those who wish to bring their own bicycles secure storage is available by prior arrangement and there is outdoor space available for other types of sporting equipment.

About the location

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
