    • “Lovely cottage, great value for money”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “The cottage is located in a very quiet, rural part of the Northern Lake District. It is simply furnished but very smart, clean, tidy & comfortable. All rooms are on the ground floor - we particularly liked the open-plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with wood-burning stove. There is a pleasant garden to the rear with decent views of the nearby fells. Plenty of pubs within a 10 minute drive for reasonable evening meals and also food shops etc in Keswick and Penrith about 20 minutes away. The adjacent cottage is being renovated so there was some building work going on during the day but this did not detract from our stay in any way. Overall, excellent value for money as this is by no means an expensive property for the Lakes.”

    • “Beautiful cottage in a stunning location”

    • “Our three night stay at Mell View Cottage did not disappoint, we didn't want to leave! The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high quality - the photos really don't do it justice. The kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed for preparing a few meals, although we went out for dinner too. The shower is AMAZING! :) The bed was very comfortable and all linen/towels provided. We enjoyed the log fire in the evenings. The views from the cottage (bathroom included!) are stunning. There is a large and lovely garden with a deck area which would be great in warmer weather. It's a great base to explore the local area, very peaceful setting but only a short drive from the A66 so easy to get to places if you want to visit other parts of the Lakes. We would love to come back for a longer stay one day.”

    • “Relaxing, comfortable, quiet and peaceful cottage with great vie”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “One of the best cottages we've stayed in. Very clean, well-presented and equipped, warm (underfloor heating and a wood-burner!)and comfortable. The only things missing were oven gloves and a tea-cosy! Cottage is very light with windows back and front, and there are lovely views even from the bathroom! The red squirrels who visited the garden were a special treat! Ideally situated, only 15-20 mins from shops at Penrith/Keswick, yet still only an hour or so to the wilds of Ennerdale, Eskdale, and Wasdale. There are lovely walks on the doorstep, if you don't feel like driving. Definitely one to re-visit!”

    • “Almost 5 stars”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Really wanted to give this cottage 5 stars as it was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean (I am very fussy about hygiene). It almost made it. What let it down were very simple things. No patio furniture which should have been a no brainer as there was a decking area with incredible views to take in whilst soaking up the summer sun. Also the garden needed a bit if a tidy. There were plenty of mirrors to do my make up and hair but sadly no plug sockets near them to dry my hair. Had to remove one mirror and place it on the church pew and use the lamp socket. The log burner got blocked and smoked us out on the first night, called the caretaker, left message but he never got back to us the whole week we were there. My husband cleaned it all out and tried again but it was no different. Gave up as the cottage just smelt of smoke and stung our eyes, even with with doors and windows opened. Please don't let this put you off though. The cottage is gorgeous and it's in a lovely quiet place with easy driving access to most popular areas.”

    • “It has been a quiet week at Mell View...”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Had a fabulous week helped by perfect weather. Mell View Cottage is a lovely little place with all mod cons. [Unless you need broad band-type technology.]Just outside the main drag of the Lake District which means peace and quiet. Ample parking. Great for young family, I guess - we were two parents and one grown son. Happy to recommend this cottage. Admin went like clockwork.”

    • “Quiet Rural Retreat.”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “This is the 2nd time we have stayed in this cottage,it is not too far from Keswick, yet is set in a wonderful quiet location,it has excellent facilities throughout,my only criticisms would be the small freezer box in the refrigerator,OK if you are eating out all the time and the complicated heating system controls. The decking outside overlooking Great Mell Fell is excellent on a fine sunny evening for watching the sun go down with a large gin & tonic.”

    • “Great cottage in lovely surroundings. Only one disappointment:- there is an unexpected Wi-Fi router but broadband connection was down. We reported to owners but it was not fixed before we left.”

Regional Information

POOLEY BRIDGE Penrith 6 miles. The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
