    “Lovely cottage in beautiful location.”

Kitchen was adequately equipped, bathroom and shower clean and lovely clean/fresh bed linen. Owner, Margaret, was lovely - friendly and very helpful. The only downside was the very poor wi-fi coverage which was intermittent and unreliable. Would not have been such an issue except we had no mobile coverage either (with two different mobile providers!). We had a fabulous, long-awaited holiday Thanks

The property

A spacious three bedroomed barn conversion sleeping five situated in a rural setting with walking and cycling opportunities from the doorstep. You are very welcome to bring along your pet who will also appreciate the delightful walks. The Granary, Ruthwaite is part of a tiny, former farming hamlet of the 1600s, set in a most restful, tranquil, location among the Caldbeck hills yet only a 15 to 20 minute drive of the many amenities, tourist attractions and activities which the Lake District offers. Converted from the barn of the old farmstead dated 1690, is owner maintained and provides comfortable, cosy, well equipped accommodation with an assured high standard of cleanliness. Guests describe it as "home from home" as they return time after time to "their cottage". The lounge looks onto a large enclosed south facing garden and patio and stunning views beyond the donkey paddock, over uninterrupted farmland to Skiddaw and the Uldale fells. Walks start at the cottage door and Bassenthwaite lake is three miles away, Overwater one mile and a number of pubs and tearooms are nearby.

About the location

IREBY

Bassenthwaite 5 miles; Keswick 12 miles.

Ireby nestles in the peaceful fells of the northern Lake District, in the beautiful area to the north of Keswick known as 'Back of Skiddaw'. Once a thriving market town, with the market cross believed to date back to 1200, Ireby is now a truly unspoilt, peaceful fell village. The peaks of Great Calva and Knott look down on the village and the nearby Aughertree Fell was the site of a Bronze Age farm and the remains of a pre-Roman road are still in evidence, a unique and most complete settlement from the Iron Age period. Nearby Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall.
