    • “Great apartment, perfectly situated”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Stylish and well-equipped, it has everything you'll need. Right in the heart of Ambleside, lots of pubs and restaurants nearby. We loved sitting at the table by the window with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and do some people watching. Zeffirelli's next door with live music and great vegetarian food is also worth mentioning.”

    • “Once again, a wonderful and comfortable stay in his great little apartment in the heart of Ambleside (not Amble as stated in the heading!). Having parked the car (which despite the warnings is perfectly straightforward) we bought bus passes for the week and were able to forget about traffic jams and parking spaces for the entire holiday. It worked out brilliantly for walking too. Anyway, staying in Tom Heights is a delight. The comfortable bed, compact layout, well-equipped kitchen and lovely, bright living room make for a really relaxed holiday. There are several great pubs and restaurants nearby. The proximity to Zeffirelli's cinema and restaurant is a particular bonus. We love Tom Heights and we'll definitely be returning.”

    • “This little apartment has everything two people need in Ambleside. The location is brilliant. Pubs, cafés, restaurants and shops are all within a two-minute walk and the legendary Zeffirelli's cinema and restaurant is right next door. You can even avoid having to make your own morning coffee by nipping across the road to Esquire's! The delightful living room is very cosy and comfortable. There is a good selection of books and local maps. The TV has a DVD player. There is just the right amount of equipment for two people in the smart kitchen which has a full cooker, a microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. They even throw in a welcome bottle of wine!”

    • “Absolutely loved our stay”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “This is definitely the hidden gem of Ambleside. Tastefully decorated, well equipped and comfortable. We were a little put off at first because of previous comments about parking. We have a 4x4 and reversed into the parking spot with no trouble. Very handy for restaurants, pubs and cinema. We would stay again if we return to Ambleside.”

    • “Home from home”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We loved this apartment! When we first arrived we were rather apprehensive as the entrance hall was bare floorboards and smelt damp but a note (with a nice bottle of red wine) in the apartment explained it was due to the floods that Ambleside suffered earlier in the year. As soon as we walked in we felt at home. The kitchen was very modern and well equipped and the décor in the whole apartment was warm and welcoming. The rooms were bigger than we expected with plenty of storage space in the bedroom. The location was excellent for proximity to the centre of the village and 2 minutes walk would find cinemas, restaurants and shops. The only minor issue we had was with noise from the street - we got used to the traffic noise but unfortunately there were a few occasions of drunken revellers! If you want scenic views from your accommodation this maybe not for you but a short walk/drive gives you all the scenery you could ask for.”

    • “Exactly what we needed”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “Thanks for accommodating us at short notice. We had a hugely enjoyable stay in this cosy apartment for two. It was well equipped and comfortably furnished, and decorated in warm colours that are rare to see these days, which made the stay even more enjoyable. The Persian rug in the lounge was such a delight, we're now looking for one similar! Tom Heights was so well situated we didn't really need the car once parked, and we found the flat surprisingly peaceful given the town centre location. A particular bonus was having Zefirellis 'vegeterranean' restaurant so close. We'll be back soon I hope.”

    • “Second time staying here in 18 months. Fell in love with this cute, clean and cosy getaway the first time round and just had to come back. Perfect location for walks and eating/drinking in Ambleside. Well furnished, always clean with well equipped kitchen. With the addition of wifi since our first stay we couldn't ask for me, it has everything we need for a week away. We will definitely be returning in the future!”

    • “perfect little holiday getaway.”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights during August and had a great time. The apartment was perfectly sized for 2 people and beautifully decorated making it feel very homely. On arrival the place was spotlessly clean and we even found a bottle of red left for us which was a great touch. The kitchen had all the appliances needed if you fancied cooking at home and the lounge had great books and maps for recommended hikes and activities. Location was perfect - right in the centre of town with both supermarkets only a few minutes walk and a nice coffee shop opposite for morning coffee runs. Ambleside itself is a lovely little town with lots of nice pubs, cafes and shops. Only thing to be aware of is the tight parking around the back, manoeuvring in and out of the space was quite a hassle if all the other spaces were full so need to be careful - would not recommend driving a 4x4 in there! Other than that, really enjoyed my holiday there and would definitely come back!”

    • “The second time my partner and myself have stayed here, the other time being 4 years ago, and although the owners and décor/layout have changed, it's still a very cosy, comfortable stay and will not hesitate to stay again on our next visit. The whole 3 days was great, good weather, gorgeous scenery, and excellent help and advice from the guys at Blacks over the road. Recommended very much. ( And great coffee over the road too!)”

    • “Next door to Zeffirellis in the heart of ambleside, this is a beautifully decorated flat, very cosy and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped (although we ate out every evening of our long weekend).Parking very tight but very convenient - we didn't need to move the car - walking from ambleside each day.”

    • “Great place for a short break.”

    • “A lovely one bedroomed flat situated right in the centre of ambleside. A well-equipped kitchen and bathroom made for an enjoyable holiday. We loved sitting at the table in the window and watching the world go by. It wasn't necessary to cook as there was plenty of choice of restaurants and cafes. Ideal accommodation for exploring the ambleside area. We didn't move our car for the three days as we could go walking from the flat.”

    • “It's a comfortable flat in a great location. Although it's very central, I didn't find it at all noisy. The kitchen was well equipped, though I ate out a lot as there is such a good selection of restaurants nearby. I had a couple of small reservations. One was the heating: the storage heater was supposed to have a boost function for evening heat, but I couldn't find the button referred to in the instructions. The electric log stove worked really well as an alternative, though. The other issue was parking. The entrance to the space is very tight because of a pillar to one side, although the space itself is generous enough. But the main problem was that a van belonging to a neighbouring business parked in the driveway during the day. When I arrived, this was blocking my access to the parking, and on other days I was blocked in. I realised who the van belonged to but it was at best an added inconvenience to have to approach them if I had wanted to use the car while I was there. (Luckily I didn't.)”

    • “Tom Heights was well equipped. Towels were a bonus and we used the property's communal washing machine and dryer. Very useful after hiking in the rain. Central location good. Ambleside is a great base. Some noise from neighbours overnight but wouldn't put us off staying there again.”

    Mrs Nickson, Bournemouth, September 2018

    • “Our third visit to Tom Heights. It remains super convenient, really cosy and just perfect for two people. The only problem is that, at the end of the holiday, you have to hand back the keys and leave!”

    Mr Jenkins, Dunbar, June 2018

    • “Skye cottages provided excellent customer support on the phone before and and throughout the stay”

Regional Information

AMBLESIDE Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles. Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
