    • “We were the first people to stay at the Barn as the owners are new to the holiday letting business. The accommodation is newly renovated and is truly top quality throughout. No expense has been spared in developing and preparing the cottage which fully justifies the five star rating given by the management company. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need to just turn up, unpack and relax before a quick shop in nearby Appleby. Coffee, sugar, tea, flour, stock cubes were all on hand. There were also a few unexpected treats waiting for us which made us feel very welcome. Doggy treats, poo bags and a lovely dog bed are also provided for a well behaved dog. The kitchen is also well stocked with cleaning products including dish washer capsules and washing detergent. Every type of cooking implement was on hand to prepare and serve anything you desire. In short everything you could possibly need is here. The owners are simply delightful, on hand to help in any way but never interfering, they pointed us in the right direction for good local Pub's, shop's, walks etc. On one of our lovely walk's we saw a Heron, and 3 beautiful Deer. The very large and well manicured garden itself is teeming with wildlife and surrounded by a delightful Beck. A large patio table and BBQ are on hand to help you enjoy the fantastic local produce in a peaceful and picturesque location. We have been in many rental cottages up and down the country and this is the very best we have been to. The Barn at Colby is a real gem, the next time we fancy a cottage holiday we will be heading straight back. We can't recommend this cottage highly enough.”

Regional Information

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND Penrith 14 miles. The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the colourful spectacle of the three hundred-year old Horse Fair. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
