Nayna “Beautifully kept cottage.”
Clean and tidy. They even left a lot of the essentials for you when you arrived. A very warm and welcoming place. If you have any issues and call the CS number the owners deal with it ASAP. Great service and support.

David “We stayed at Lowera Cottage earlier this month.”
We already knew the lake view location which is idyllic. The presentation of the cottage is absolutely superb. The kitchen area is totally modern and equipped with high quality crockery, cutlery, cookware and utensils. The bathroom too is very modern and makes good use of the space. The bed linen is also good quality and the master bed very comfortable, although we always choose to bring our own pillows. What struck us very much is how clean the property was, room to room, such that we thought the owners must take personal responsibility for this rather than leave it to agency cleaners. We are very glad we did not heed the review of Sept 2022 from visitors who seem to have no concept of what ‘self-catering’ means. They were clearly expecting a top hotel experience with many extras. On the other hand we were very surprised and grateful for what was provided in the kitchen for us to enjoy. All very thoughtful indeed. Well done to the owners for providing first class value for money. David & Jeanette. May 2024
- David, May 2023Vanessa “We were both underwhelmed when we entered the property due to the size and general appearance.”
The location however was great for us, only a 15 min uphill walk to Windermere and a short stroll down to the lake which is stunning. It was nice to sit out of the front of the property, on a shared path to other properties, in the evening to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset. However, it would be nice if the old wooden bench and the uncomfortable metal chairs be replaced with something more comfortable. We could not understand why this property is rated as a 5 star, and we have stayed at lots of 4 & 5 stars for comparison, There was no welcome basket, just a bottle of fizz & some tiny soaps. At all other properties we’ve received fizz plus many basics such as fresh bread, local butter, eggs, milk. and sometimes chocolates, biscuits, cream teas, fresh flowers and more! There wasn’t even salt & pepper, luckily we brought some with us, There were only 3 dishwasher tabs, 2 toilet rolls and 2 bin liners for the very small bin in the kitchen, we had to buy more of all these basic supplies. I would suggest a recycle bin be added, especially as there is a great recycling point yards from the property, and we ended up piling our glass, cardboard, etc on the window sill each day. The property had an awful smell when when we arrived (maybe previous holidaymakers had cooked fish the night before?), and immediately we lit scented candles and opened windows to let the place air. The internet disconnected every day while we were there. We emailed the owners, who responded promptly, and where told where the router was and how to reset it, but it was still a pain to do every day. The bathroom fan would not turn off. After the first night of disturbed sleep, due to the noise, my husband turned it off by using the very high switch above the door, and that’s the way it remained for our stay. This resulted in a very steamy bathroom and a bathroom mirror light which would not work. We found the bed very small, I guess we’re just used to our larger bed, and the corner sofa quite uncomfortable. There are however some nice cushions & throws on it. We used the bed in the spare room for my husbands clothes as there is only one small wardrobe in the main bedroom. I can’t imagine three people staying there as it’s just too small and not enough storage for clothes and belongings. We would not use the property again as we have stayed in much better, but will definitely return to the Lake District as it is just so beautiful!
- Vanessa, September 2022Hi Vanessa, we are absolutely devastated to read your review of our little Lowera. We can only respond with love and positivity as we have never received feedback such as this before. We are very proud of Lowera Cottage and feel our property description is a fair and accurate depiction of what is available. It is a self catering cottage, and unfortunately, practically it is beyond what we can offer to provide all of the extras you suggest. Although we would always be happy to help guests arrange their own fresh hamper if they would like this on arrival. We always strive for the highest of standards and have already replaced the garden furniture which bears the brunt of living the outdoor life! We always endeavour to be very responsive and only wish you had contacted us so we could have helped you enjoy more of your stay. Many thanks, Lowera Cottage Owners Property Owner
Daniel “A lovely property ideally located for exploring the area.”
Very peaceful and quiet, comfortable and clean. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage to the lake. I was nice to see the bottle of fizz gift on arrival, but it would have been extra nice if there was some very basic items like sugar, salt and pepper in the cupboard.
- Daniel, August 2022Alice “This cottage is a tranquil haven with absolutely beautiful views of the lake, picturesque and peaceful and Wow!”
Private lake jetty just a lovely short walk along a treelined countryside path. Path suddenly opens up on to the lake with jetty and breathtaking views. Pristine and Spotless. Tasteful decor with up-to-date tech appliances done to a five star standard. We have had a great adventure exploring the lake district. Cottage is in ideally situated for a short walk to Windermere Town and very central to bus stop which will take you thoughtout the Lake District. Excellent.
- Alice, August 2022Edward “We think it should be mentioned on the property description that the access road to the property is very steep making it difficult for people with mobility problems.”
We also feel that a long handled dustpan and broom would be helpful. When we arrived we found the sink in the bathroom was blocked and running away very slowly. We phoned Saturday morning and someone was there in 30 minutes and fixed it but we feel the cleaners should have spotted it.
- Edward, May 2022Andrea “Very cosy cottage beautifully furnished, excellent view and access to the lake will definitely come back.”
- Andrea, April 2022Carolyn “Amazing view, could do with some disabled parking nearer to the property .”
- Carolyn, April 2022Indira “An excellent cottage.”
Very well maintained. Lovely views from the cottage. Will definitely recommend to my friends.
- Indira, February 2022Gemma “We had such a lovely time we will definitely be returning.”
- Gemma, December 2021Jon “A well appointed cottage in a excellent location.”
- Jon, September 2021Alison “Absolutely loved our stay at Lowera Cottage: fabulous, peaceful location, glorious views, great space to play outdoors, and a private jetty to swim from.”
The cottage itself is compact, but beautifully decorated and equipped with everything we needed. A fabulous place to stay for couples or smaller families.
- Alison, August 2021Helen “Beautiful walk taking you to a jetty on lake Windermere sitting with a book and a beer”
- Helen, June 2021Lee “Great location close to all amenities/activities.”
Cottage was very clean and sat in fantastic surroundings. Unfortunately there was no cutlery, having contacted Sykes to enquire about this they did not correspond. At this time we’re unable to verify Sykes customer service, initial impressions were disappointing.
- Lee, May 2021Thank you for your feedback for Lowera Cottage. There is definitely cutlery in the cottage, it is located in a drawer inside one of the larger drawers, we are sorry that you did not get a response when you reported this to us. If you had contacted us by telephone we could have directed you accordingly or popped into the local office in Windermere. We hope that you will consider booking with us in the future. Property Owner
Hannah “This was mine and my partner's first holiday together and we have have the most amazing stay!”
Everything in Lowera Cottage was just perfect! The view is out of this world, it was lovely to wake up to it every morning. We weren't far from any shops with both Windermere town centre and Bowness within close proximity, but far enough away to be away from any traffic noises and busy crowds. We were greeted every morning by a very friendly local cat who we think lives in the Manor House at the top - for a cat lover, this was really sweet to encounter. We are coming back to the Lake District in the future without question, and we hope to stay here again!
- Hannah, May 2021Richard “Such a lovely home away from home in a fantastic location, perfect for exploring the Lakes.”
Loved the extra little touches, the Kendal mint cake, the games, prosecco and extra anti-bac and cleaning items to keep the house safe. The owners have clearly spent lots of money to create a lovely cottage that they love. And we felt spoiled staying there. The only thing we'd love to suggest (for next time we stay), would be a better door that feels more secure/less drafty, and a curtain/blind to cover the door for a bit more privacy and warmth on the colder evenings. The booking process from start to finish was great, and we were kept updated throughout. Thanks, The Miles Family
