The property

Broughton-In-Furness 2.6 miles.

Stable Cottage is a wonderful two-bedroom stable conversion on the outskirts of Thwaites in Broughton-In-Furness in Cumbria.

Stable Cottage is ideal for a couple or family of four who want to add a bit of character to their trip to the Lakes.

It is located within the Lake District National Park, near to the owner's home, and has characterful features throughout, including original woodwork and stalls.

Step into the sitting room, where you can unwind after a day of exploring the Fells in front of the TV, as the electric fire gently warms the space.

Prepare delectable meals in the fully equipped kitchen, which includes a dishwasher and washing machine, ready to savour at the dining table for four.

On warmer days, make dinner an alfresco affair and fire up the barbecue out on the private decking area.

After a relaxing soak in the bath or a refreshing shower, unwind with a hot chocolate before retiring for the night.

As your eyes grow tired, retreat to one of two well-appointed bedrooms, a king-size and a bunk bed room which includes a historic feature of a ladder that was once used to access the hayloft.

Make use of the walk that runs through the garden after enjoying your morning coffee there, heading to Duddon Valley and Black Combe.

In Broughton-In-Furness, you may have a classic pub lunch in front of a crackling woodburning stove in the Old Kings Head or the 18th-century Black Cock Inn.

A newsagent, a bakery, a post office, a petrol station, and a second-hand bookshop are all available in the bustling town.

Continue on to Milom, a coastal town where you may spend the day basking on the beach, hiking up to the Hodbarrow Haverigg Lighthouse, or taking in the wildlife-rich surroundings of the RSPB Hodbarrow.

Further into the Lake District National Park, you'll find Coniston Water, where you can go kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding, or simply sit back and take in the scenery on a National Trust Steam Yacht Gondola.

The Ruskin Museum and Brantwood are two other places you should visit.

A holiday to the Lakes would be incomplete without a stop in Windermere, where you may marvel at the views from Queen Adelaide's Hill or Orrest Head, explore The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, or go on a treetop climb at Treetop Lake District.

Promising a memorable escape to the Lakes, choose Stable Cottage.

About the location

Millom 7.5 miles; Coniston 9 miles; Ulverston 9.5 miles.

Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
