“A great cottage in a quiet little village, perfect for if you want to relax.”
The town, Cark has great links to neighbouring villages - such as Cartmel and are all a short drive away. The cottage was great! Very clean and comfortable, the log fire is a great touch. I would definitely stay again.

“Really enjoyable break here.”
Ideal position, where we could sit out in the sun in the evening with a drink or two. Lovely walks just outside the door. A very gentle holiday with easy access to the South Lakes area.- Mark, May 2022
“Overall the cottage was very clean and well maintained, good location to explore the locl area.”- David, May 2022
“The cottage was a lovely place to stay.”
It's well equipped, comfortable & we appreciated the central heating after getting cold & wet. Parking was easily available. One criticism are the arrival & departure times 5pm is late especially if you've had a long drive and 9am on departure day is too early. 4pm & 10am would be much fairer. I wouldn't book again without negotiating this. Other than this an enjoyable place to stay.- Ros, March 2022
“Cottage has everything you need for a short break and would recommend.”- Paul, December 2021
“A lovely little cottage in a great location giving the option to make the most of the many walks on the doorstep or close enough to visit Bowness, Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston and many more.”- Jan, November 2021
“The cottage was in a good location to visit different places.”
We were lucky with the weather a few days of sunshine. the cottage was cosy but was let down with cobwebs in a couple of the rooms. We would return to this cottage in the future- Marianne, September 2021
“Very disappointed on arrival, cleanliness was awful!”
! Rubbish bins outside overflowing! No instructions as to when the rubbish was to be put out for collection?? Sticky sweets left under the bed?? This is our 2nd bad experience with yourselves, sadly we will not use your company again!!- Lindsey, August 2021
“Good location for exploring the lakes, cottage was OK and met our needs but could have been a little cleaner, also recycling containers had not been emptied, and the decking at the rear is next to the bins so not pleasant to sit out, but there is a table and chairs at the front near to the river.”
The rear is open across the row of cottages, so be mindful if you take your dog. We also saw a rat run out from a neighbours shed which again was little concerning, but it is very rural.- Claire, July 2021
“Lovely cottage very close to Windermere and all the other lakes but nice and secluded”- Robert, July 2021
“Beautiful cottage in beautifull surroundings deffinatly go back again”- Graham, June 2021
“More information about recycling and refuse collection as we had no idea on when to put out the bins at all.”
Well impressed with the speed of response by the management company when I reported issues with electrical equipment. Not happy with 9 am departure time although I understand the reasoning, as this meant we had no time for breakfast other than a quick brew. I would have been even less happy has we been a family with a couple of children rather than a couple of pensioners.- Dave, May 2021
“Property very well presented in a great location.”
Could benefit from more cutlery and plates. No serving dish. Sharp knife needed. We really enjoyed our stay nevertheless!- John, May 2021
“This holiday was a gift for my parents 50th wedding anniversary, they thought the cottage and facilities ware fantastic, all home comforts and amenities close by.”
They were very pleased- Bronwyn, October 2020
“Great location lots of walks.”
Cottage was beautiful everything we wanted. Would love to visit again.- Jacquie, October 2020
“Comfortable Cartmel Cottage is in a beautiful position, being part of a well-kept pretty terrace beside a stream.”
It is close to the village store and The Engine, which serves food.I had been concerned that holidaymakers might have been met with some hostility with regard to the spread of Covid 19, but the local people were very friendly. We travelled to Cark by train and were pleased to find Holker Hall, Cartmel Priory and the Lakeland Model Village at Flookborough were within walking distance for the reasonably fit. The railway provides good links with the towns and villages of the Cumbrian coast if you wish to explore further afield. This is a great setting for a quiet and peaceful holiday.- Denise, September 2020
“Cottage quiet and peaceful in a lovely setting with friendly neighbours.”
Everything that you could reasonably want. Felt very comfortable. I get COVID-19 situation but there was a very limited supply of toilet roll in and dishwasher tablets so we had to buy some. I don’t want to be picky but there was a lot of post, some of which seemed to be official, dating back to March. If the owner can’t get there, the facilities company should communicate with them. The bath panel came off during our stay and the facilities company sorted it the same day so well done.- Chris, September 2020
“Fantastic accommodation and location.”
Faultless- Andy, September 2020
“Beautiful little cottage if a lovely location.”
Very comfortable and clean. We throughly enjoyed our stay.- Lisa, July 2020
“Absolutely gorgeous little cottage in a fantastic location for peace and tranquility, lovely and clean.”
It felt like a home from home and I wish we could have stayed a little longer, only bad thing I can say is that I couldn’t manage to get the fire lit but it was still lovely and warm. Would definitely recommend! Thankyou- Emma, February 2020
“We arrived at this cottage on a cold November day but sadly the heating wasn’t already on and it took a long time to warm up, not the best welcome.”
The overwhelming impression in the living area was how much the space was compromised by an oversized sofa and armchairs. The latter of which were not as shown in the promotional photos. The space was so small that I struggle to imagine how four people could move about in the room. Also there is a Smart TV which has clearly been an issue with previous guests, us included. It’s so annoying having to use apps and log into the various channels not all of which offer live TV. There was no washing machine in the property either although checking on the web page it doesn’t refer to there being one so I guess that was an oversight on my part and wasn’t really an issue to be fair. There was also an issue with lightbulbs, there were two boxes in a cupboard but they were not of the correct fitting so no idea why they were there in the first place? Overall we found our stay rather disappointing, with a little more imagination and a modest financial outlay Cartmel Cottage could be a very nice holiday cottage.- Kathleen, November 2019
“Cottage is quiet and we'll equipped, though lack of clear instructions made the first 24 hours a challenge.”
TV, dishwasher, cooker ...manuals are all well and good but a typed sheet to shortcut what to do, would have been more helpful.- Angela, September 2019
“Cottage was ideal for our family get away.”
Well furnished and equipped set in a quiet, picturesque location. Shop, pubs and takeaway all in easy walking distance - fantastic!- Steven, August 2019
“Great cottage which was comfortable with everything that we needed.”
Set in a beautiful location, would definitely recommend- Lisa, August 2019
“. we thoroughly enjoyed the picturesque location and the charming little cottage..”- Leonard, May 2019
“Cosy cottage in pretty village.”
We enjoyed using the log burner and visiting nearby Windermere.- Gemma, April 2019
“Beautiful location by the river with handy walks.”
Log fire kept us lovely and warm. Would highly recommend.- Emma, October 2018
“Quiet peaceful location, very close to the two local pubs, shop and bakery, you must try their freshly baked pizza!”
The cottage is lovely and cosy, really well equipped, comfortable beds, we call slept well. The village of cartmel is only a 5 minute drive away and is well worth a visit, beautiful places to eat, recommend the Cartwright arms for lunch :-)- Jane, September 2018

Great stay , very happy with cottage (would suggest a bath/shower mat be provided to prevent any slips when taking shower)- Roy, July 2018
“Cartmel Cottage is fantastic and very well furnished and equipped.”
This was our second visit and we hope to return.- Suzanne, July 2018
“Lovely comfy cottage.”
Only issue was that there wasn't anywhere to put any washing. A clothes airer would be useful- Elizabeth, June 2018
“Lovely cottage the area is beautiful.”
Great for walks or just relaxing.- Christine, June 2018
“Lovely cottage in a very friendly village with lovely walks on the doorstep and a sandy beach within 40 minute drive.”- Janet, May 2018

The cottage was lovely for us it needed a bath Matt and a grab rail in her bathroom The only big downside with a dog is the lack of no back or front privacy , this was very inconvenient with no fencing to keep our dog contained or have private drink out back All in all the cottage was lovely in an ideal location But due to the dog issues we could not book again- Natalie, April 2018
“Lovely Cottage with Woodburner & Central Heating.”
Complete Kitchen: Hob/oven, microwave, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. Great base for exploring Lake District, choice of pubs both serving food nearby. I would definitely recommend this cottage.- Les, March 2018
“The location of the cottage was great for us.”
Lots of walks on the doorstep, a shop and bakery in the village and good nearby pubs. The cottage was small but well-equipped and cosy despite the sub-zero temperatures outside. There is no enclosed garden so could be difficult for some dog owners but we managed no problem. The owners and Sykes helped us with a last minute request and no bother. Would be happy to stay here again.- Katharine, March 2018
“We stayed in Cartmel Cottage from 23rd February for one week, the cottage is lovely, warm, cosy and I loved the stream right outside of the house.”
The owners were very accommodating and helpful when I rang. The cottage is in a great position for sightseeing there is also a small shop, bakers and two pubs that serve food all on the doorstep. We loved this cottage, parking was not a problem, unfortunately we had to return two days early because of the “beast from the east” however this will not put us off and we will be back.- Karen, February 2018
“Cartmel Cottage was delightful, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.”- Sharon, February 2018
“Really enjoyed the relaxation and the peace needed a break to recharge my batteries so to speak and this was the ideal place.”
Only 1 drawback was the amount of driving I had to do to go to anywhere of interest. But to be fair there was a train station with a very good service but I am not a train person.- Anthony, February 2018
“The cottage - couldn’t fault any of the facilties, location etc, it was all lovely.”
Our only issue was that with the property being listed as pet friendly, it would have been useful to know that none of the outside space was enclosed. It’s clear that the cottage fronts on to the river and that pets should be supervised however the back patio is also open for your dog to roam in to next doors garden and also on to the road.- Sarah, February 2018
“Great little holiday cottage good base for exploring the Lakes.”
Excellent pub one minute walk from the door servicing good food. Had a lovely would definitely recommend.- Joanna, November 2017
“Picture perfect cottage in a super location, train station only a few minutes walk that takes you to some lovely places.”
Two friendly pubs serving food and a great artisan bakery. A most enjoyable holiday.- Jenny, July 2017
“The cottage and area were fantastic.”- Suzanne, July 2017
