The property

This chocolate-box cottage lies in a courtyard of cottages & forms part of a larger converted building, set back from the road in the village of Clappersgate.

The property sits less than a mile from Ambleside, in the centre of the Lake District National Park.

Methera boasts a warm atmosphere, welcoming you from a day of fell walking; take a seat on the chic sofa and keep the designated chef company whilst they get to terms in the kitchen, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher.

As you tire, climb upstairs to be greeted by two king-size bedrooms, one of which can be arranged as a twin due to its zip/link functionality, providing flexible sleeping options for couples and families.

Outside, across the cobbled courtyard and road, there is a lovely, shared garden set on the banks of the River Brathay, which flows into Lake Windermere.

Perfect for water enthusiasts who wish to have direct access to the lake (please see note below).

Here in the lovely garden, you can enjoy a favourite drink on a warm evening, away from the hustle and bustle.

Avid walkers will be delighted to know there is a path behind the cottage, leading up to Loughrigg Fell where you can enjoy views over Ambleside to Wansfell from the summit, whilst there are plenty more outdoor opportunities in the surrounding area.

The Ambleside area is a walker’s paradise with close proximity to some of the most iconic walks in the Lake District.

Venture into Ambleside itself, and you’ll soon understand the popularity behind the town, offering a plethora of fine restaurants, friendly pubs, quirky shops ranging from boutiques to supermarkets, plus attractions such as Armitt Library and Museum Centre, White Platts Recreational Ground and the fascinating remains of the Ambleside Roman Fort.

The quaint village of Hawkshead is a short drive away and a must visit for literary lovers, boasting the Beatrix Potter Gallery to visit and of course, Hill Top at Near Sawrey.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
