The property

Alice's Cottage is located in the centre of Hawkshead, engulfed by the picturesque countryside of the Lake District. This 17th century, black and white property is adorned with hanging baskets and pretty flower beds, inviting you to enjoy a relaxing break with your loved one. You will be enticed by a warm, country cottage feel inside, where painted beams and modern fixtures are combined. The stylish open-plan living room is warmed by a cosy woodburner set in the alcove. Curl up on the sofa and relax into the evening after a day exploring the area. The kitchen is washed in white with a breakfast bar catering for two. Upstairs you have the super king-size bedroom, displaying the original, 17th century flooring, followed by the lavish bathroom. Enjoy a lovely hot soak in the roll-top bath or refresh after a long walk around some the Lake's finest attractions, in the separate shower cubicle. To the exterior, at the front of the property, you have garden furniture inviting you to share a moment with a drink on a summer's afternoon and watch the world go by. The village is well-stocked with amenities close by, so you can browse gift shops and dine at your leisure, all the while taking in the picturesque scenery. Beatrix Potter fans can pay a visit to her gallery in the village or enjoy a trip to Hill Top or the 'World of Beatrix Potter'. Lake Windermere provides a fantastic day out, as does Bowness and Ambleside. You also have various National Trust properties, walking trails and heritage sites within your grasp. This romantic retreat is nestled in a fabulous part of Cumbria.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
