    • “Cosy and comfortable cottage”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We stayed at Boxtree for 2nd week in the Lakes. Can't fault the cottage. Well maintained, high quality fixtures fittings and kitchen equipment. Loved the bath! Good layout for keeping the dog out of the lounge and upstairs as they provided a gate. Dacre is a quiet picturesque hamlet near Ullswater. Nearest shops 2 miles away in Pooley bridge, also a few pubs for eating. We liked the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke. One big disappointment was that the pub next door has just shut up shop for good. It was a big factor in booking Dacre so that was a shame. However, we adapted! Lovely place and if and when we visit the lakes again we'll book Boxtree.”

    • “This is a lovely cottage with everything in it that you could possibly want. Two large comfy bedrooms and bathrooms, with a pretty cottage garden. We had a most enjoyable week and our dog loved it as well. Would have liked to have been in walking distance of Ullswater but the weather was very hot which rather put off long walks. Some very good local dog friendly pubs in the area with excellent food. A pity the one in the village is up for sale and barely functioning.”

    • “Wonderful cottage in peaceful village, convenient for all Lake District has to offer.”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “We were so pleased that we had chosen to book Boxtree for the 2nd week of a 2 week break in the Lake District with our dogs. It is a delightful cottage, full of character but with all mod cons & so comfortable. Plenty of space for the dogs who seemed as content with it as we were. Bathrooms are spacious. The garden was glorious & we sat outside to reflect on our day's activities on our return each day. It was very restful. On arrival there was a homemade cake, chocolates, dog treats & a card to welcome us & vases of flowers to add to the wonderful first impression on entering. The village of Dacre is pretty & peaceful and includes farming community so we were able to watch the shepherds & their dogs driving the sheep down the lane. However it is relatively close to beautiful Ullswater & all it has to offer or a short drive to reach routes out if you wish to explore other parts of the Lake District or Eden Valley. Perfect in every way.We would certainly not hesitate to book again.”

    • “Perfect as usual”
    • tripadvisor rating
    • “I think that the fact that this was the 6th time I have stayed in the cottage with a seventh coming up in July speaks volumes. I love this cottage. The location is perfect - low level walks from the doorstep; easy access to higher level walks; Pooley Bridge and its amenities a short drive or an interesting walk away; Penrith and its supermarkets only a 10 minute drive away, and Keswick, with its shops, pubs and restaurants only 20 minutes. The cottage is spotless and very tastefully decorated. With the wood burning stove lit, the living room is a very cosy place to while away the evening perusing the very helpful folder of walks and attractions. The kitchen is well equipped with all you could need for cooking away from home, although the quiet Horse and Farrier pub is only a 30 second walk away should you fancy a hearty pie and chips (no food in the winter months though). The location and the attention to detail mean that I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in The Lakes.”

Had a fantastic time in the lakes with our dogs and coming back to a log burner and a bottle of wine in a lovely cosey cottage made it 100x better would highly recommend this cottage and would love to come back again. Thank you for making our last holiday before we are married one to remember!”

    • “First time booking this delightful cottage and was not disappointed. Beautifully furnished and lovingly decorated with lots of nice little touches. On arrival I was greeted with fresh flowers, tea, coffee, after dinner mints and home made lemon drizzle cake which was soooooo delcious. Invited to the village gathering of apple pressing for making cider ... all the locals were invited to bring their own harvested apples. Great experience. This cottage has absolutely everything you could possibly need ... the owners have put a lot thought into making this a home away from home for their guests. Also, was so great that I could bring my two cats along ... they must have felt the love because they settled in brilliantly. Many thanks to owners Carol and Steve Ingram ... will most definitely be booking up again next year.”

    • “This is about our 4th stay at Boxtree. Seem to recall it was new on our first visit in 2013 and the owners have really maintained it to a high standard - the gardens have matured beautifully. Very clean and bright with welcoming flowers, lemon drizzle cake, wine and chocolates and doggie treats and lot's of other little touches- very thoughtful. Conservatory and garden are a bonus. There's en suite bathrooms - one with a great shower, the other with a huge bath to soak in, big comfy beds and everything you need in the kitchen. Great log burner if needed. Highly recommended. Dacre is very conveniently situated. It's a peaceful little hamlet tucked away but only a few minutes from Pooley Bridge and Penrith and no more than half an hour to Keswick. Great for getting out and about.”

This is the third time we have stayed & will stay again next summer, fingers crossed. There's a great shower or deep bath to soak in after great day's walking; and lovely fluffy towels. Very conveniently situated.”

    • “This is a wonderful cottage in every way. Carol and Steve have shown such thoughtfulness in all that is provided. The garden is beautiful and what a pleasure to arrive to freshly cut flowers, delicious lemon drizzle cake, and beer. The furnishings are of a very high standard, largely from Laura Ashley, and we were spoilt with a bedroom and en-suite each. The photos don't really do justice to this cottage, and we cannot recommend it highly enough.”
