“We had a brilliant holiday in this lovely little cottage.”
Well worth the money as the cottages either side cost a few hundred more! Central in Grasmere, excellent having parking facilities so we could walk out from the cottage. Lucky enough to see the Ospreys up at Bassenthwaite and a red squirrel on a walk up to Silver Howe. Heard the jets but only saw the Chinook helicopters. Google top ten cafes in Grasmere and we tried them all, and all excellent. The only one where we left having had no food was Harley's, just opened the week before and in ...
The only one where we left having had no food was Harley's, just opened the week before and in my opinion shouldn't have rushed as they just weren't ready! Cottage lovely and warm, didn't use fire and ate out every day aside from breakfast. The owner rang us mid fortnight to check we were all ok and everything was in order. Just a couple of things to note and this now down to Sykes to update website description....no dryer just the washing machine but we didn't need it. Shower can be a bit feisty so take time to set it for you and it's good to go! And the front of the cottage picture needs to be updated Sykes as it now looks like Beck Steps 1! Brilliant holiday, great base and will definitely return!
“The cottage was wonderfully well equipped and clean, and very spacious & homely.”
The location was absolutely perfect - the very centre of Grasmere, with a lovely outlook across the village green and with great views of the fells all around. A lovely take-away bakery next door and Co-op supermarket literally round the corner. We certainly want to return one day - both to Grasmere and to this lovely cottage!
“The shower was rubbish.”
The house was cold in evening and controls hard to work out for central heating. To give owner/caretaker his due he did come round straight away to sort it.
“Very nice cottage - only thing not liked is lack of upstairs toilet and wash basin.”
“Everyting was great, we liked the house.”
Only the table in the kitchen was too small.
“Everything at the cottage was excellent.”
The location is perfect, in perfect Grasmere. Easy check-in, attentive follow-up, very comfortable, and the kitchen was FULLY equipped.
“Amazing location, directly in Grasmere village.”
cosy beautiful cottage. Private parking space, everything clean and comfortable, constant heating and hot water system, excellent kitchen appliances. Only big downside there is no shower, just a bath and hand shower over bath. This is advertised which is accurate but we would choose another cottage with a over head shower for our next visit, but great for others who just love a bath only. Fantastic holiday, so relaxing and peaceful. Highly recommended.
“We had a wonderful stay and really liked the cottage, already considering our next visit.”
Location was very convenient in village centre and easy walking distance to Lake Grasmere. Cottage was warm and cosy generally, although the bathroom was rather cold. The kitchen was well equipped although only two chairs were provided at the little dining table which was fine for us as we were only two people, but not for four. The bath water was not hot enough and we had to top up with many boiling kettles to get it up to temperature. None of these slightly negative aspects would deter us from coming back and we thought the cottage suited us well.
“Great cosy cottage.”
Having own parking is very helpful. Perfect location. Could do with a better over bath shower and a bigger kitchen table.
“Fantastic location, right in the heart of a pretty, friendly village with frequent bus links and easy road access.”
Everything you need for an easy relaxed vacation, lots of free or inexpensive activities in easy reach, as well as being close to the more commercial attractions.
“Beck Steps 2 has an ideal location, right in the heart of Grasmere, with beautiful views from the bedrooms.”
The bedrooms are a good size, and the beds comfortable. The lounge is also comfortable, though there are some dusty blankets which can cause problems for asthma sufferers. Dust is also noticeable in the bedrooms, probably due to having floorboards with gaps between them. The kitchen is adequately equipped, but the saucepans could do with replacement. The bathroom is downstairs, which might be a problem for some, though we did not find it so. There is a parking space just a few steps from the cottage door, which is another useful asset. All in all, a very nice cottage, though with the potential to be even nicer with a little bit of extra attention from the owners.
“The cottage is in a great location in the centre of Grasmere - and the fact that it has its own allocated parking space is a definite bonus.”
The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. The directions could be improved - just adding that access is next to the art gallery "on Broadgate" would help enormously. But overall we had a really good holiday.
“If you're staying in lake district, Beck Steps 2 is amazing!”
Good location, super clean, quiet, amazing views and a late open shop two steps away :-) Higly recommended :-)
“Great location, lots of nearby shops, cafes and restaurants plenty to do and see.”
A lovely cottage!
“Lovely cosy cottage.”
Very well equipped, comfortable beds and warm. Details stated a DVD player which was not available, but other than that super place to stay.
“Very well situated and equipped appartment”
Outstanding location, nearby shop and bus station, we appreciated the washing machine and well equipped kitchen.
“Beautiful cottage overlooking village green.”
well equiped and cosy. Location ideal near Grasmere lake with some gorgeous walks locally and other lakes just a short drive away.
“2 Becks cottage”
This cottage was absolutely spotless on arrival, location good with private parking. Great location for getting out and about. It had everything you would need for a most comfortable stay. We loved the open fire. My only issue was no tumbledryer but that was only that as a family we were cycling everyday and very active . We used the neighbours one! Everyone is friendly and coffee shop 2 doors down does great coffee and pastries. Highly recommended and would stay here again.
“Doorsteps with views”
This was our first time in the Lake district, and won't be our last. As everyone says the area is beautiful, even those views from the doorsteps of this very comfy cottage, right on the village green, and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. With a place for the car (which was very close if not adjacent!) it was just a question of getting the Lakes Bus pass for a week and get to see the views, visit the towns and places with no hassle with parking. We were really spoilt with the weather, in shirt sleeves most of the time, and what better way to end the week than with a Farmers Market on the Friday before leaving (stocked up with fresh meats fish and sampled the Caribean dishes) and right on the doorstep!! Apparently it was a Grassmere first - so thanks to the organiser and we really do hope it becomes a monthly event.
“Great place to stay-- try it.”
Warm, clean, comfortable, everything you need, parking place excellent. walks from house of different lengths, neighbours quiet.
“Top drawer holiday cottage”
Beck Steps 2 is the epitome of comfort. Iit is well appointed and equipped and very tastefully furnished. The king size bed is a'dream' Despite visiting in one of the wettest weeks of the summer we had a great break as the cottage was warm and cosy. Grasmere itself is on the doorstep with its lovey shops and eating places. This is truly an excellent place to stay and the owner, who lives in the village is most helpful. Nothing is too much trouble .

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance.
