“Just had a fantastic holiday in the Lake District at Crown House!”

    We loved ...

We loved that the cottage was in a very quiet village, but only a short car ride from both Ullswater (15mins) and Keswick (25mins). The weather was terrible all week, and when we weren't going on rainy walks from Pooley Bridge or Derwent water, we found plenty to do in the cottage and around it. The kitchen had everything we needed for baking with the kids, and we really appreciated the games in the Lounge, which we played on the more rainy days. The little laundry was the perfect room for all our wet clothes and there was even a washer dryer and electric airer to dry everything on. This was also the perfect bedroom for our dog! Although there was no garden, there is a narrow yard at the back, which had a covered bike rack for our bikes (which we never used because of the weather) & although we didn't use it, there was also a lovely bench across the road we could have used on warmer days, and there is a little island (Great for playing with the kids) in the stream at the bottom of the hill. The nearby pubs were all welcoming and friendly - we particularly enjoyed walking to the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke for our dinner one night. The cottage was clean, warm and cozy, and we loved the welcome pack left by the owners with local produce from a nearby farm. We could have a coffee as soon as we arrived! The little soaps handmade in the lakes were a lovely additional touch. We loved staying here, a little off the beaten track and away from the crowds, yet were near enough to the fantastic lake District to enjoy all its beauty. Penrith was also a lovely town, with everything we need, and only 10 mins away. All in all, a fantastic holiday in a wonderful cottage full of character.
