    • “We had a great stay here over New Year 2013. Excellent location, great house with lots of amenities such as cooking utensils, kitchen towel and tea towels, bedding, TV, dishwasher and tablets, washing machine and detergent, a torch (for late night walks to the pub), 2 bathrooms and downstairs loo, and ample parking space for our 4 cars! We only have a couple of suggestions: we would have liked some hand soap in the bathrooms, a ladle in the kitchen would have been handy (we bought a peeler and left it there for the next guests :-) ) and also the downstairs patio windows leaked an awful amount of water so the carpet around the window was completely sodden (if we forgot about this, it ended up with some rather wet socks but I am sure this is being fixed, we were probably just unlucky). These are definitely not complaints and didn't spoil our stay one bit! We would most definitely recommend the house and would stay again. We had a great time!! Also the pub in Morland was great on New Years Day too! Thanks a lot”

    • “I was expecting bedding and towels included in the rental of the cottage as this was said in the brief, the bedding was included but only 2 tea towels were included, as I didn’t know about this before I set off I had to go to the local supermarket and buy hand and bath towels which cost me £30 for the 3 of us. Just beware before you travel. And there was no bread knife so had to cut our bread with just s normal knife.”

Ideally located for a peaceful holiday at any time of year, Newby is only eight miles from the market towns of Penrith and Appleby and Keswick is only 21 miles, whilst Lakes Ullswater and Haweswater are a short drive away. The Scottish borders and Hadrians Wall are both easily accessible, making these cottages an ideal choice for any holidaymaker looking for an idyllic retreat in a peaceful location within easy reach of all the major attractions Cumbria has to offer. Situated on a small courtyard development, converted from farm buildings these cottages, adjacent to the owners home are well equipped and tastefully furnished.

Regional Information

NEWBY Appleby 8 miles; Penrith 8 miles. The charming old village of Newby sits in a secluded location in the Eden Valley, between the northern Pennines and the Lake District. Newby, with its better-known neighbours of Appleby and Penrith, is surrounded by lovely rolling landscapes and is often described as having a special, unchanging beauty. The village itself is surrounded by open fields, supporting cattle, sheep and horses. The nearby market town of Penrith offers a good selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, a cinema and swimming baths. Why not visit the Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith, or nearby Lowther Castle Gardens and Bird of Prey Centre? Ullswater, with frequent cruises from Pooley Bridge, is eight miles away or you may like to visit Appleby, famous for its annual horse fair and a stop on the Settle-Carlisle railway. This is an ideal holiday location.
