    • “Great birthday treat”

    • “We stayed here for my brothers birthday (2 couples and dogs). Ullswater and Pooley bridge are beautiful and a walk from aira Falls of about 9 miles made the weekend complete. There was plenty of room in the cottage even when my nephew, who is working at nearby Sharrow Bay and his girlfriend came for tea. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equiped. The only thing I could quibble about was the lack of hot water. The system runs on economy 7 and we struggled for us all to get showered after being out in the cold all day but we managed by boiling the kettle to fill up the bath! The Sun Inn at Pooley Bridge is brilliant! The atmosphere is like the lakes used to be 20 years ago before it became too touristy. The beer is good, staff ace and the food is all freshly prepared, tasty (and I'm fussy bout a Sunday dinner)and the right price. Would I stay here again definitely! Even if I had to boil the kettle for a bath”

    • “Nice cottage. Only drawback is being at the top of a steep hill, making it difficult for elderly or disabled people to reach on foot.”

Regional Information

POOLEY BRIDGE Penrith 6 miles. The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
