“Cottage provided all you needed and upstairs living area well equipped.”

It was cosy particularly with wood burner. Downstairs bedrooms however felt very damp and smelt. Bedding smelt of damp and stains on duvet. Feather duvet and pillow not great if you have allergy/asthma problems and would Recommend changing. Also two plastic sheets under the sheet as well as damp made uncomfortable sleeping. This was a shame as slightly spoilt what was otherwise a lovely holiday In Brilliant location. Renovations on next door cottage made it a little noisy at times throughout the ...

Thank you for your response The cottage had been in constant use three weeks prior to the guests’ stay and there had been no previous comments as to the ambience of the cottage. We know the weather changed and became colder which would have mildly affected the atmosphere in the cottage. The guests were able to enjoy the wood burner and used the gas central heating system to create the coziness required. We had no notifications about any Asthma / Allergy problems prior to the guests stay by SYKES. Guests usually highlight specific Allergy requests prior to any bookings made. We do provide Hypo Allergy pillows, which are available for guests to use at the cottage; however guests do comment they enjoy the feather Pillows & Duvets that are made available. As regards the waterproof mattress cover, this is in place to protect the mattress from any accidents or spills. Unfortunately this is made of an impermeable material and can feel cold under the bed clothes. We have since sourced a new mattress protector which we know will be more comfortable for future guests. We have spoken to Housekeeping and can only apologize for their lack of observation regarding a stain on the Duvet cover. This has since been cleaned. Unfortunately, sometimes items do get missed out or forgotten. It is worthwhile noting that all guests’ must take photographs to substantiate any problems noted within 24 hours of arrival and to call the numbers given on the various notices provided in the cottage. This allows us to rectify any concerns or unforeseen equipment failure in a timely manner so that the rest of the guest's stay can be enjoyed. During the guest's stay comments were made regarding the noise at times coming from the alterations being done at the cottage next door and we can only apologize for any minor disturbance this caused. Unfortunately in this instance, this was out of our control. We do endeavour to make the cottage as comfortable as possible for visiting guests and we are delighted that these guests enjoyed the cottage's brilliant location and its views. Property Owner

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
