The property

The Old Byre has a cosy lounge with log burning stove. This quaint cottage sleeps six people and has plenty to do and see in the local area and is within easy reach of the rest of the Lake District. Sandford is a quaint village only three miles west of Appleby, famous for its horse fair. The northern Pennines are within easy reach and offer alternative walks and scenery in a less frequented area than the Lake District. For those who enjoy cycling the Eden Valley is an ideal base to enjoy the great outdoors with its quiet roads and country lanes waiting to be explored. The village is at the end of a no through road and with the River Eden within a five minute walk is therefore ideal for families with children and dogs. Sandford has a traditional village pub which is within walking distance, serving excellent bar meals. The Old Byre has recently been refurbished to a high standard, retaining many of its original features and is sure to appeal to those looking for accommodation in an area of peace and tranquillity.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.

Due to COVID the owner has requsted that you bring your own towels to the property and on leaving the beds are stripped and the sheets, pillow and matress protectors are placed into the plastic boxed provided, thank you.
