Reviews

    • “We loved our stay at Margate House! The house is really spacious and nicely decorated with a real WOW factor, it's the nicest house we've stayed in from Sykes and we've stayed in a few! We are a family of three including a toddler and it was perfect for our needs. Immaculately cleaned, well decked out with kitchen equipment, fluffy towels etc, comfy sofas, beds, excellent location for exploring the lakes. The host, Pamela lives nearby so is always on hand if you have any questions, she is very friendly and could not do enough for us. We would highly recommend this to family and friends and hope to stay here again in the future. Excellent value for money too. Thanks for having us! x”

    • “This is a very nice house indeed, with every modern device you could wish, very elegantly furnished and decorated. Pamela Gowling is a welcoming host, always available to deal with any request. Tirril is just off the M6, providing the calm of a backwater, while giving immediate access to the Lakes and to the shops of Penrith. We are old Lakes hands but felt that this area was a new discovery.”

Regional Information

POOLEY BRIDGE Penrith 6 miles. The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
