Judith “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Charnwood and would stay again in the future.”
Its central position was ideal.
Its central position was ideal. We would take our own pillows next time - personal choice is for softer pillows. Perhaps in listing mention that the stairs are quite steep - possible problem for older guests. On the whole a great place to stay.

Ann “The house was great.”
It had a very well equipped kitchen with loads of cutlery glasses and plates. Good central heating and the fires as a top up if needed. The beds were very comfortable. It had a nice feel as pictures on the wall. There was lots of hanging space in bedrooms and hooks for hanging coats and dressing gowns in sensible locations. The airer was handy so we didn't have to use the tumble dryer. The shower was good and powerful. Lots of nice shops in Windermere and Bowness. The 3 floors meant we had to get a bit of extra exercise, no harm with all the nice food we ate at home and out.
- Ann, October 2020Debbie “No parking permit available for the street parking but managed with the space as we only had one car”
- Debbie, September 2020Theresa “Everything went smoothly and as agreed.”
Had a very comfortable stay. Hope to return
- Theresa, August 2020Julie “We loved staying in the house - it really was like a home from home.”
It was so well equipped and the location was perfect. Having a private parking space was fantastic, as well as a permit to park on the road, as the road got full at the weekends. The beds were so comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.
- Julie, February 2020Mathew “We had an utterly delightful time staying at Charnwood.”
Situated a very short walk from the office of Sykes Cottages. They phoned us up on day 2 to check everything was in order which was a nice touch. Some hadays suggested the car parking space at the rear was problematic with narrow space and being blocked in. We have a very large vehicle, had no issues at all. Nice accommodation spread over three floors. Well appointed and clean. Thank you :)
- Mathew, July 2019Andrew “A pleasant little cottage ideally situated in the town with decent parking both front and rear”
- Andrew, June 2019Clive “Perfect location and superb weather all week.”
The cottage is ideally situated in the centre of Windermere, but a quiet location, with ample parking and an excellent location for exploring the countryside around. A great holiday.
- Clive, May 2019Rodney “The house was perfect, location great.”
- Rodney, November 2018Nicholas “It would be difficult to exceed the very high expectations that Sykes set.”
The house was very comfortable and conveniently situated with shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants nearby and more options within moderate walking distance. It was well located for exploring Windermere and its surroundings, whether on foot or by car. I would like to add that the staff of the subsidiary company, Lake Cottage Holidays were excellent - very friendly, helpful and solicitous to ensure we had the best holiday. Thank you.
- Nicholas, October 2018Kit Ping Evangeline “There is no hair Dryer in the house.”
- Kit Ping Evangeline, September 2018Stella “Everything looked exactly like it did in the photos!”
The cottage was clean, neat and tidy and there was all the kitchen equipment you would use at home. Towels weren't listed as being there but they were included along with tea towels, oven gloves and wash up sponges. We had a great holiday food shopping was easy; a couple of minutes around the corner a coop, a sainsbury slightly further; with a Brookes near the railway station; bus station and Lakeland shop. We walked from the cottage to Bowness where the piers are for the lake. Got the bus to Ambleside from the station (open top so great views) and came back by boat (red cruise one way), we got the bus back up from Bowness to Windermere. It was all included in our Bus and Boat Central Lakes ticket (£12.50 for an adult). What a great day out! Wish I'd got up earlier so I could do the full open top bus ride!! If you like houses and gardens Levens Hall was great the topiary was amazing.
- Stella, August 2018Christine “The property we staye in was excellent.”
It is in the centre of Windermere within walking distance of shops restaurants and pubs, and is only a 15 mins walk to the lakeside at Bowness. It was very well equipped with everything you would need for self catering. The back yard is a suntrap and as we were really lucky with the weather this was a bonus.
