“The cottage was spacious and comfortable.”

It was in a good location. It was near shops restaurants and takeaways, which was ideal as we had a toddler with us, so ate in at night. The owner also provided games and books and was flexible with the time of arrival and departure, which was very much appreciated.

“It is a delightful cottage, bigger inside than it appears on the outside.”

On entry it was very warm and we had to turn down the radiator thermostat as we like our house at around 18 to 19 celcius. The whole house had a welcome feeling, the kitchen fairly well equipped , comfortable furniture and bed and hot water in the showers. I am disabled and cannot walk far, but I managed the stairs in the house without any problems. The shops (Co-op & Sainsbury's) are a minute walk for the rest of the family, it took me 3 minutes. The restaurants are the same distance. We had 3 meals out in Windermere. Cafe Italia , Tapas ( across the street from Cafe Italia) and Francine. All good but Francine was Spectacular and though a bit on the pricey side, the food is very good and would cost at least 15 percent more in the south. We would book again if we are back in the area.

“From booking to departure the communication with Sarah was excellent.”

The property was clean, fresh and possibly recently renovated. Central heating, hot water, bathroom, ensuite, and white goods all worked faultlessly. Location was excellent - 50 yards to the local Co-Op and the high street. Even a welcome box of shortbread biscuits which were devoured with a nice cuppa on arrival after our long journey from London! Thanks, Sarah.

“Fairoak is a lovely three bedroom terraced house in the centre of Windermere.”

Large private car parking space at the rear. Large well equipped kitchen with dining room. Two bathrooms with plenty of hot water. WiFi is fast and reliable always. Excellent communication from the owner about the property. We had a fantastic week there.

It was very well equipped and comfortable except for the beds (the double wasn’t too bad but my husband and grown up son slept badly in the singles, maybe fine for children). It was very central for the town and lovely walks - we loved Orrest Head.

The communication with the owner before our arrival was excellent - we were provided with detailed instructions on appliances etc and lots of suggestions for things to do whilst in Windermere. The house was clean, spacious and well-equipped but its best selling point was the location. It is literally 30 seconds from the main street and it took less than a minute to walk to the bus stops and less than 10 minutes to get to the railway station. Despite this the street itself was very quiet and peaceful. We’d very happily recommend Fairoak and would stay there again if returning to Windermere.

The house was very well equipped and to a high standard. It was convenient to be able to walk to the town in a few minutes. Sarah informed us there would be scaffolding at the rear to repair the chimney but it was not inconvenient at all. It was a bonus to be able to park the car at the rear of property. Gillian

“A spacious and comfortable accommodation with good facilities, close to main shops, pubs and rail/bus station.”

All the rooms are well proportioned and the kitchen has full facilities. Excellent communications from the owner who responded to any questions without delay. There was still scaffolding at the rear (mid May) that could affect access as a vertical pole is just in front of the door, although it didn't bother us. Improvement for me would be an addition of a wardrobe as previously mentioned by another guest. Nothing would put me off booking this property again.

“The cottage was well situated off the main street in windemere.”

The cottage has scuffolding at the back of the property and there was work going on on the roof whilst we were there. We were only told of this on Friday afternoon as we were travelling down. This is not what we paid for nor expected on holiday! The back bedroom had mould on the walls which meant we could not use that bedroom and although booking a 3 bedroom property, we could only use 2. The lounge had throws over all the sofas and a broken lampshade. The kitchen looked very old and dated. We were very disappointed with our stay and we have never rented a cottage in such a poor state, it needs a lot of TLC! Anna Davis

“The cottage was comfortable and very conveniently situated.”

It was well equiped and very clean. Having a spacious dining room as well as the cosy sitting room it was ideal for our three generation party and our young Granddaughter had plenty of room to play. The only problem we encountered was the lack of a wardrobe or even reasonable sized chest of drawers in the second (twin bedded) bedroom which made it difficult for my daughter to unpack properly. A minor issue though and we had a lovely week staying at Fairoak

“Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this extremely comfortable-spacious yet cosy-property.”

Close to all facilities yet off the ''main drag'' (the main streets of Windermere can be very congested with pedestrians). Plenty of places to eat and drink out but also good choice of groccery stores if you want to eat in to avoid the crowds during Covid. Walks from the property and also within a short drive. Clear instructions and good communication regarding arrival from the friendly owner.

“We would definitely recommend this cottage for a super holiday in the Lake District.”

The cottage is right in the heart of Windermere with shops, restaurants, post office and supermarket all a very short walking distance away. The cottage was spacious and comfortable for a family of 5 (all adults), the two bathrooms making it ideal. The lounge has a lovely large bay window, with an interesting outlook to the street and we enjoyed some cosy evenings in there playing board games. The kitchen is well equipped and we self catered for most of our stay. We found the dishwasher and washing machine useful. Everything was in good order with clear instructions, although the younger members of the party found the Wi-Fi a bit slow! The parking at the back of the cottage was a real bonus and we were able to park two cars there (one large and one small) as my son drove up separately. The owner, Sarah, was very helpful with providing us with information before our stay.

“I, my wife and daughter can only say that we had a lovely, restful time.”

I have not said that it exceeded expectations because our e-mails etc with the owner, Sarah, prior to arrival had left us in no doubt that we were in safe, competent and efficient hands, and so it was. Fairoak is a lovely, homely place to spend time. There is nothing it lacks and all the information you require regarding how appliances work etc easily available, not to mention information about the delights Lakeland has to offer. Faroak is in the centre of lively, little Windermere, but peaceful and tranquil. You park up at the back of the cottage and watch the world go by through your bay window. Alternatively. you can go out, walk 50 yards, and there are eating places from all four corners, pubs opening up again and a relaxed atmosphere. You obviously choose what you wish to do with your time at Fairoak, but wherever you want to go, and whatever you want to do in the Lakes you're at it's heart. North, south, east, or west, it is all accessible. We would be more than happy to return and our thanks to Sarah, and those who look after it and made the whole experience so good!

“A clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage.”

Everything you might need was supplied, but you will need to take toilet rolls, milk etc. with you. The parking space at the rear of the cottage was a big advantage and we would book this place again. A great location, with small co-op and Sainsbury’s express two minutes walk away and Booths supermarket next to the station. We stayed the last week of lockdown in May, so no pubs or restaurants open indoors. We still had a good time - what’s not to like about the Lake District!

“This property is more than adequate for a comfortable short stay holiday.”

The only reservations we would have in recommending this cottage to friends are the difficulty of operating the key safe, which anyone with poor eyesight would have difficulty in managing, and the restricted access to the car parking position. This latter is obviously outside the control of the owner. The property could not be better placed for easy access to all the facilities in the town of Windermere. We really enjoyed our holiday here.

The owner was super to deal with and so helpful, showing a great deal of care about her house and guests. The house itself was in a fantastic location which is quiet and yet only a very short flat walk to lots of shops, restaurants and cafes, the bonus of a private parking space which is rare in this location, making it even better. The house was very clean, well equipped and spacious and there were helpful notes on what to do with the heating, bins etc. The only small thing I would say would be that the sofas could do with replacing, but I would highly recommend this cottage, would certainly return and indeed hope to do so next year.

Having a parking space was fantastic, but the house is really close to the bus stop for buses north and south which run every 15 minutes or so to Bowness, Brockhole, etc. We enjoyed not having to drive everywhere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fairoak.

It is extremely comfortable, warm and spacious. The added bonus was parking at the rear of the house as it was impossible to park elsewhere with easy or near at hand. The shops, including a supermarket and restaurants were very near at hand yet the street was quite. The owner was very helpful and quick at replying to queries. We had a great holiday in a beautiful location in a comfy home. We intend to return to Windermere next year if all goes to plan and will book this house again if it is free.

“This is a lovely cottage in a great location.”

We have a six and five year old and found that the cottage had everything we needed. There is a parking space at the back of the house which is great as there is limited spaces in the village. There are toys and games provided and kids dvds. The house is clean and very spacious and I can not fault it. There is a nice park at the end of the road and the local shops, pubs and restaurants are a one minute walk away. In terms of things to do with small kids, there is lots in the local area. You can walk up to Orrest Head from the cottage. It takes about 20 minutes and the views of the lake are amazing. We walked down the hill to Bowness most days. It takes about twenty minutes and there is lots to do there. We did a boat trip, visited the old style cinema and enjoyed the lake. There is also the Beatrix Potter museum here. Further a field we visited Wray Castle and Keswick. Both have great playgrounds for the kids. We also went to Coniston, and Grizedale Forest which were great days out. We also went to Brockhole which is a 5 minute drive away. It is nice to walk around and has a good play area but the activities are quite expensive and overpriced in my opinion. We had a fab week and would stay here again.

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park.
