“It was for my wife’s 70th birthday and only booked 2 days before following the unavailability of a previous property due to storm damage.”

We were delighted with the house and the log burner made the birthday party great. The Christmas tree was also a nice touch. Overall this is an excellent holiday house

“Moss Cottage - Aug 2021 Cottage was as described, lovely and clean, great location, plenty of parking, the garden was a little over grown but it has been a wet summer.”

It was a 10 min walk into Windermere with a couple of lovely walks on the doorstep (Orrest head and Queen Adelaide Hill - Millers ground). Meals out were a little tricky for 5 as it was busy (bank holiday week) and you couldn't book in Windermere (we ate at Cafe Italia twice which was lovely and brown sugar). Taxi into Bowness was approx £7 direct to where you wanted to be or bus was also easy as there is a bus stop close to house. You could book resaturants/pubs in Bowness. We walked or used the car, bus and taxi depending on what and where we were going. A lovely cottage, would return.

“Fabulous property in a great location.”

Spacious and homely, great for a family trip. Kitchen very well equipped, though some other things the listing described were not available such as wood for the log burners and we were unable to locate the board games/DVDs etc. Cleanliness could have been a bit better - there were cobwebs in most the rooms. Heaters were a little difficult to control as some did not unlock as per the instructions. But overall enjoyed a great stay at Moss Cottage.

“Difficult to answer the above question .”

.. we felt communication with Sykes was poor . We received very little help prior to going with regard to our Covid concerns about our stay . We were given different information by different staff members & was told that we couldn’t cancel our holiday when we contacted you within 48 hours of booking expressing our concerns that we couldn’t travel due to being 3 Households . We were only told we could travel the week before . We Appreciate you were waiting to hear from govt. legislation but felt it was handled badly. . From an accommodation point of view Moss Cottage is excellent , very clean , comfortable , well equipped & great location . Our one concern was that we felt someone had been in the property whilst we were out one day as a window had been opened in tbe lounge ??

“The cottage was lovely, everything about it was perfect.”

.. very enjoyable week with the weather making it a fab week.. The lovely garden is a sun trap and the location of the cottage is in a quiet area of Windermere but only a 5 min walk to the amenities … excellent from booking the cottage to our departure day.. would certainly book again if holidaying in the area

“Lovely Lakeland Cottage down a quiet road.”

Very near (walking distance) to all the fabulous amenties of Windermere and easy access to all the other towns/villages & walks in the Lakes. The conservatory was lovely and the beautiful, landscaped garden was well maintained & secluded. Sadly for us due to the rainy weather we were unable to make use of the garden but I could imagine eating breakfast, lunch & dinner outside during the summer months. The house was very clean and the towels were fluffy & white. The large kitchen was well equipped and the beds very comfortable. The only downside that we noted was that the house stairs were quite steep (OK for us) but would not be suitable for young children and the heating controls on the invidual heaters in each room were a bit tricky to master. There were 2 wood burning stoves which we didnt use which would make the cottage very cosy on winter evenings. We have never used a wood burning stove before and didnt feel confident to light them. However buying the logs and an axe to chop the logs for the stove from a local shop did seem a bit extreme and we did feel that the logs should be provided. We did enjoy staying in this cottage and would love to go back one day.

About a kilometre from the centre of Windermere the house was in a pleasant quiet area. Because of age we used the car for the simple drive to local shops etc. The scenery all around is stunningly beautiful and there are plenty of other towns and villages within easy reach to visit. The ferry trip to Hawkshead from Bowness is worth doing, or one can go as a foot passenger to walk along the 'other side'of the lake with only a few people if you want to escape from the crowds in Bowness.

“The cottage was warm, welcoming and comfortable.”

So warm in fact, we didn’t need to light the log burners. Home from home. Sitting around the table and watching the wildlife was fantastic, especially when the roe deer wandered up into the garden. If you want comfort and peace and quiet then this is the place to come.

“A lovely property tucked away from the busy roads but within a 10 minute walk from the centre of Windermere and all it has to offer.”

The house was exceptionally well presented on arrival and met all our needs for our Christmas week away. We didn't make use of the garden but I imagine it would be a lovely area to relax in at the right time of year. The next best thing was the conservatory, it was lovely to sit in it and watch the birds on the feeders with the woodburner on. All in all a lovely week in a property that suited us perfectly.

“Moss Cottage is lovely.”

The decor is gorgeous, light and airy with tasteful quality furnishings including very comfy beds and crisp white bedlinen (which smelled gorgeous too!). The layout was very comfortable with a cosy sitting room and a large well fitted kitchen leading into a light and bright conservatory/ dining room so lots of space to spread out and relax. Everything you need is there including fluffy white towels and a welcome pack of tea coffee etc. Everywhere was spotlessly clean on arrival. The location of this pretty house is in a leafy area and the garden is large but secluded and private. It was close enough to town to enable walking into Windermere and the off road parking was a great asset in such a busy holiday destination. Overall a perfect stay - we wished we could have stayed longer and would return without hesitation.
