“We loved the location and the cottage was amazing.”

Only downfall was that with children with us there was no shower facilities, but we managed ok. Also water went cold very quickly so couldn't always have a bath. Everything else was perfect and would love to stay again some time in the future.

“We had a lovely stay at the cottage, we loved the feel and décor of the cottage, I didn't realise there was no shower and we had some issues with hot water but as soon as I called they were very quick to get it sorted.”

Could do we a few more pans for cooking, also the cleaning wasn't great. Be good to have bath sheets not towels. The parking space is very small but we parked out on the road which was fine. We loved our week in the Lakes.

“Wow! What a wonderful, quintessentially cosy cottage and a real home from home in the Lakes!”

The Old Post House is well-equipped and beautifully decorated inside and out, making it the most relaxing place to stay. Witherslack is the perfect base to explore near and far in the Lakes, the Dales and the coast. The cottage itself is amazing - great layout, exposed beams, wisteria-covered stable door, a Rayburn range and wood burner means it's always warm and really comfortable whatever the weather outside. The kitchen diner is great, kept toasty by the Range cooker and brilliant for playing games, hanging out and of course cooking and eating, while the woodburner in the lounge keeping even the coldest days at bay! The gardens at The Old Post House are so beautiful and a fantastic place to be too - designed for outdoor entertaining with numerous patios and private nooks on offer. The well thought-out landscaped hedges, bushes and plants bursting with color and scent, make it the perfect place to sit and take in the surrounding views and enjoy the tranquility of the countryside in privacy - and even stargaze at night! There's so much to do here and we barely scratched the surface! Walks directly from the garden gate up to the breathtaking views from Whitbarrow, bike rides to everywhere including the Winster valley, Cartmel and Windermere and Coast to Coast cycle route 70 and others going through the village. Pubs, shops and everything you need is here - in the village or nearby in Grange or Kendal. You won't be disappointed with your break in The Old Post House.

Spend mornings in the kitchen/diner gathered around the country dining table and enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on your first adventure of the day.

In a farmhouse style kitchen with a traditional stable door, the Rayburn cooker is an impressive addition, with a host of other quality appliances, all amidst the pretty decoration and well-chosen touches like the designer mugs hanging from the shelf.

Retire to the sitting room reached by a set of steps from the kitchen/diner, find a long blue sofa here to lounge on, watch a film on the TV or sit at the antique desk and chair to read and relax.

Continue up stairs to the rear garden door where all guests can enjoy the patios and lawned areas, where you can unwind with a refreshing drink.

You can step straight out from the garden on to Rocky Common, where various footpaths and walks can be discovered.

You will find lovely bedrooms on the first floor, beginning with a delightful twin bedroom, with metal frame beds and ornate designs on the bedding, you will feel right at home.

Next is the quirky single bedroom, with a layout including a step down to the built-in wardrobe space and a dressing table.

Continue along the hallway to the master double bedroom, where a traditional wardrobe provides a lovely spot to unpack your things, and the beautiful antique brass bed is the perfect place to relax.

Freshen up in the bright and spacious bathroom, or you can have a long soak in the large bath tub.

Witherslack can offer the essential amenities in the form of a local shop and pub, while a little further south on the coast is Grange-over-Sands, a lovely coastal town home to a great selection of shops and quirky eateries, visit here to walk along the promenade and take in the sea air with views over to the Arnside & Silverdale AONB.

Find adventure on Lake Windermere with boat and kayak hire available to journey the waters yourself, or hop on one of the frequent Lakes Cruises to discover the beautiful lakeside towns of Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.

Closer to home, the Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre can offer a country hack through the scenic landscapes for those with a love of horses, a great way to explore.

The small village of Witherslack lies tucked beneath Whitbarrow Scar, in a lovely area running south east from the shores of Lake Windermere, encompassing fell, woodland, river and valley bottom.
