Take time out to visit Floors Castle, a very prominent Stately Home with restaurants and gardens, designed by William Adam. Also close by are Mellerstain House, Kelso Abbey and the Kelso races. Mellerstain House is a stunning example of Georgian architecture at its finest. Designed by the architect William Adam and his son Robert in 1725, it is the residence of the 13th Earl of Haddington. The house is located within 80 acres of luscious rolling parkland and is in walking distance of Smailholm Tower, the ancestral home of Sir Walter Scott. Great fishing can be enjoyed on the Teviot, Tweed and Jed rivers and there are many excellent golf courses to choose from.
