Why book a cottage in Penrith?
Located just outside the boundary of the Lake District is the market town of Penrith. Once the capital of Cumbria, it is now an important shopping centre with a number of boutique and independent shops, as well as some excellent pubs and restaurants. Set within the Eden Valley, the landscape is a mixture of rolling green countryside and rising fells. A holiday cottage in Penrith provides a great base to explore the Lake District and North Pennines as well as the pretty towns and villages nearby.
Places to visit near Penrith
Choosing a self catering cottage in Penrith will give you plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling. Climb Hallin Fell, overlooking Ullswater or cycle along the Sea to Sea trail, a 140 mile long network joining the Lake District and North Pennines. History buffs can visit Penrith Castle or Brougham Castle and learn about the famous battles that were fought here.
South-west of Penrith are the villages of Pooley Bridge and Glenridding, set on opposite banks of Lake Ullswater. If you don’t fancy walking around the lake then you can jump on board one of the steamers and enjoy a leisurely journey across.
From luxury cottages to lodges and log cabins, there is a great selection of properties in Penrith to choose from.
