YOUR GUIDE TO IN AND AROUND THE WESTERN LAKES AND COAST
Let Lakes Cottage Holidays plan your next Lake District Holiday in the Western Lakes and Coast area
The western Lake District boasts England’s highest mountain, Scafell and deepest lake, Wastwater. The area is less frequented than the heart of the lakes, so even at its busiest you are assured a more leisurely pace all in stunning scenery.
Whether you choose to stay in this area for a weekend or longer there’s plenty to do and see. There are castles to explore, stately homes and gardens to wander, steam trains to take a ride on, an indoor racing go kart centre at Maryport if you are feeling competitive, plus a huge variety of outdoor activities in the area including golfing, paint-balling, mountain biking, pony tracking and much more.
The Eskdale to Ravenglass Railway trundles through the valley to the coast below and with its themed events is well worth a trip. Sandy beaches, coastal walks, harbours and bird watching are all available along our Cumbrian Coastline and with the Western Lakes only a few minute drive or a picturesque trip over Whinlatter Pass will take you to Keswick, making your holiday different from one day to the next. Fish and chips at Maryport watching the boats come and go followed by a stroll through the traditional, quiet seaside town of Silloth, followed by ice cream on the beach at Allonby is a great day out for all the family.
The area is known for its festivals and events including Silloth Music and Beer Festival, Maryport Blues Festival, and the friendly locals are pleased to welcome you along and join in the celebrations.
