Let Lakes Cottage Holidays plan your next Lake District Holiday in the Windermere area

Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, and being 10 miles long there is a lot to do and see in this area and along the lakes shore.  Bowness-on-Windermere is the Lake Districts most visited town, and is the extremely popular boating central of the Lakes with almost 10,000 registered boats on the Lake.

Situated south of Ambleside, Bowness-on-Winderemere offers many high street shops, gift shops, book shops, cafes and restaurants.  Down the hill and towards the lake shore you can hire a rowing boat, feed the ducks and take in the beautiful view.  The lake is always busy, especially during the summer months including; fishing, sailing, wakeboarding, canoeing and kayaking.

Explore the lake by ferryboat which regularly takes passengers between Hawkshead and Bowness.  Being home to the only railway station in the Lake District it is the perfect base for those visiting without a car and has excellent bus routes to explore the whole of Cumbria.

Windermere is a 30 minute drive from the motorway, 10 minutes from Ambleside and 15 minutes to Grasmere.  Lake Ullswater can be reached via Kirkstone Pass and is within half an hour drive with Keswick being 30 to 40 minutes away depending upon traffic.
