“Michelle and Adrian were very welcoming and hospitable.”

The cottage is well suited for exploring Carlisle, the Lake District, Scotland and even venturing out onto the Carlisle to Settle railway. We had our bikes with us and Adrian kindly let us put them in his garage and it was no trouble to him or his family to get them out for us or put them away whenever we wanted, which was very kind. The cottage itself is very clean, the decoration is lovely, it's very comfortable and has everything you would need. We would thoroughly recommend this.

“From the welcome of the owners, the garden and surroundings on a summer's day, and everything in the cottage was terrific.”

I cannot recommend this highly enough - for sure we would stay there again, and will! We found the freezer at the end of the stay - freezer and washing machine are under the stairs, and we did not think to look! Thank you for everything - a great holiday

Everything you need is provided and the cottage is very clean and tastefully decorated. The only issue we had was poor phone/internet signal but that's more down to the location... lovely and secluded .... than the owners. We had a great week.

This converted mill has an abundance of exposed beams and views over the fields to the River Eden.

Ideally located on the outskirts of Carlisle to enjoy the facilities of the city yet due to its location has a country get away from it all feel. Carleton Mill was formerly a working mill dating back to 1721 and is located on the outskirts of Carlisle.

The cottage has an abundance of exposed beams and magnificent open views across the fields to the river.

The historical city of Carlisle has a wealth of activities to keep the family entertained during their stay including the castle, cathedral, Tullie House Museum, the Lanes Shopping Centre, and much more.

Carleton Mill is only 1 minute from the motorway, making the Northern Lake District easily accessible and the winding lanes of the Eden Valley are also close by making this an ideal base to explore the whole of the area, and for the days when the weather is not at its best, exploring the historical city is a must. The cottage is equipped to a high standard to cater for all your holiday requirements.

CARLISLE

Carlisle is set in the county of Cumbria, situated just 10 miles south of the Scottish Borders and is nicknamed the Border City. During Roman times the town was established to serve the forts for Hadrian's Wall, which runs east from the city across the country to Wallsend on the east coast and today is recognised as a World Heritage Site. During the Middle Ages, due to its proximity to the Kingdom of Scotland, Carlisle became an important military stronghold and Carlisle Castle, still relatively intact, was built in 1092 by William Rufus, after once serving as a prison for Mary, Queen of Scots. The castle now houses the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and the Border Regiment Museum. In the early 12th century Henry I allowed the foundation of a priory in Carlisle and the town gained the status of a diocese in 1122, resulting in the priory becoming Carlisle Cathedral. The Settle to Carlisle railway runs across some of the most breathtaking scenery to the popular Yorkshire town and Carlisle Racecourse has a packed fixture list including Ladies’ Day and evening fixtures. Within driving distance is the Victorian seaside town of Silloth and just over the border is Gretna Green, where you'll find the Gretna Gateway Shopping Centre and Anvil Hall, the famous wedding venue.
