Keswick 7.1 miles. Ashness, a charming one-bedroom cottage in Bassenthwaite, is located near Keswick in Cumbria. Ashness enjoys a fabulous location, nestled in the Lake District National Park and just a short distance from Bassenthwaite Lake, making it a wonderful pet-friendly home for a couple seeking a retreat in the Lakes. Be welcomed into the sitting room, where you can kick-back and relax in front of the crackling woodburning stove, sure to be your pooches favourite spot, as you watch your favourite show on the Smart TV. The bright and airy kitchen, with a dishwasher, is the perfect place to prepare delicious meals, ready to enjoy at the dining table over a bottle of wine as you recount the days adventures. Additionally, the home has a tiny, private back patio with a bike storage shed. There is a washing machine in a cupboard in the hallway of the home, so there is no need to bring your whole wardrobe away with you. Just moment’s away from Ashness is Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, where you can go on leisurely walks to see the local animals or take to the water in a boat, paddleboard, or kayak. Around the lake, you'll find the Alpacaly Ever After attractions, which include the Lake District Distillery, the Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve, the Lake District Wildlife Park, and the renowned Mirehouse and Gardens. You can also meet the local alpacas and grab a drink at the distillery. Enjoy the Keswick Museum, the Derwent Pencil Museum, and the neighbouring Derwent Island and House National Trust location. Skiddaw Peak, a 931-metre mountain just a few miles away, offers breath-taking views from its summit. Continue on to Ullswater, where the National Trust site of Aira Force and Ullswater or the nearby peaks of Helvellyn and St. Sunday Crag, both of which are worth the hike for their vistas, await you. Visit the ancient house of the great poet William Wordsworth in Grasmere before continuing to Ambleside, where you can explore the interesting ruins of a Roman fort. Consider making a detour to Windermere to take advantage of the many water activities, scenic vistas from Orrest Head and Queen Adelaide's Hill, and the Beatrix Potter World. Ashness is the perfect starting point for your journey to the Lake District.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.
