    “Glen Cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable.”

    I would say though that it looked very ‘tired’ inside and could do with a freshen up and some TLC. I had to defrost the freezer as I couldn’t open 2 of the drawers and the wood burner had not been cleaned out. The owner was there the day we arrived and was very charming and helpful. ...

    I would say though that it looked very ‘tired’ inside and could do with a freshen up and some TLC. I had to defrost the freezer as I couldn’t open 2 of the drawers and the wood burner had not been cleaned out. The owner was there the day we arrived and was very charming and helpful. We could hear the people next door walking about upstairs as the floorboards were very creaky and the cottage is right underneath. We could hear the shower being used but, thankfully, we were not disturbed over night. The weather was not kind to us and we had to leave 2 days early because of lockdown. The beauty of The Lake District detracted from any negativity we had. The Autumn colours were breathtaking which we made the most of when it was not raining.

The property

Glen Cottage is a one bedroom ground floor property part of a traditional stone built barn with great views of the fells, a sun lounge and a walled garden.

Close to Ullswater and Keswick, yet away from traffic in an idyllic location for walkers and cyclists exploring the Northern Lakes or to simply relax and enjoy to scenery. Rated Four Star Gold by Visit Britain this cottage has a sun lounge with views of the Dodds.

Very pet friendly with its own walled garden and access to a large fenced field. The lounge has a beamed ceiling, a cosy wood burning stove, TV and views of Great Mell Fell.

A fully equipped kitchen includes an oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and wide range of crockery and utensils.

The shower room has plenty of hot water and you can leave coats and boots out of the way in the large porch. The fields around usually have sheep or ponies and a wide variety of birds visit the feeders outside the sun lounge.

The chickens provide delicious fresh eggs and are always entertaining to watch as they explore their large grassy pen looking for a tasty treat, or running to meet visitors. Glenridding, Ullswater, Penrith and the M6 are all within 20 minutes drive while Ambleside and Windermere can be reached via the beautiful Kirkstone pass. The cottage comprises: Lounge with Inglenook fireplace housing wood burning stove, oak flooring, view to Great Mell Fell, beamed ceiling, TV and DVD. Sun lounge with dining table, sofa and superb views to both Great Mell Fell and The Dodds. Breakfast kitchen equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher and travertine floor. Spacious hallway with two steps down leading to double bedroom with king size bed and views to Great Mell Fell. Shower room with WC, vanity unit and heated towel rail. All electric, bed linen and towels included. Travel Cot and highchair available Wi-Fi available. Private parking for 1 car. Private garden with furniture and shared lawn area.

Bassenthwaite 7 miles, Ullswater 16.6 miles; Cockermouth 13 miles.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.
