“Our 5 day stay starting on Sunday got off to a very disappointing start.”

There were no terrestrial TV channels working on the Smart TV. There were no user instructions for the TV. Contact with one of the telephone numbers in the Information Folder was unable to resolve the problem – the only suggestion being given that we attempted to re-tune the TV. This suggestion didn’t work. The toilet seat was broken on one of its fixing. We would have hoped this should have been noticed and reported by the cleaner before our arrival. Later on this first evening we felt chilly and discovered that the instructions to obtain heat from the individual radiators produced nothing. All of these issues were the subject of a further text to one of the two contact numbers. The following morning (Monday) the owner came round. He too could not resolve the issues with the TV or the heating. He arranged for a TV engineer to call – this occurred whilst we were having a meal at teatime that day. The lack of terrestrial channels was fixed but the picture quality was poor for the duration of our stay. The toilet seat was partially fixed on the Monday and the essential spare part was due to be fitted later on the day of our departure (Friday). As a central heating engineer visit could not be arranged until a day later the owner provided 2 oil –filled radiators for the interim. The central heating engineer identified the problem on the Tuesday. A courtesy call from Sykes’ local Lakes agent on the Monday was advised of all these issues above. Two other more minor “niggles” – no milk jug and out of date complimentary drinks in the fridge were rectified on the Tuesday. Other observations: Instructions for the microwave (wattage unknown) would have been useful. A properly working toaster and hob extractor fan also would have helped. The explanations/instructions to use the School Room’s appliances were minimal. Overall, the School Room was clean, well- furnished and has lots of storage space and superficially is of a high standard. Parking was not a problem. However, the above catalogue of issues very definitely and sadly knocked the edge off our stay there.
