“Although the cottage was as advertised, we were disappointed by the standard of the fittings and particularly the seating in the living room.”

The dilapidated sofas (which were minus the cushions for COVID reasons, we get that) were so uncomfortable we finished up sitting on dining chairs - which have also seen better days - most evenings. Providing an open fire yet not even a starter pack of logs, matches and firefighters seems a bit mean! All in all it was quite a depressing little cottage and we were glad to be able to be out of it most days. Good points were comfy beds and plenty of hot water, a well equipped kitchen. I won’t recommend Sykes as we had zero communication from you after lockdown was called part way through out stay. We love the lakes returning many times, but we won’t stay here again, for the money it was definitely not worth it!

“fab cottage”

stayed here in may 2017, really comfortable, everything you could need whilst you are away. kitchen is really well stocked with all the equipment you could need. very comfortable beds and very handy parking at rear highly recommended

For the more energetic you can disembark the Ullswater Steamers at Pooley Bridge, Aira Force and Howtown and walk back to the village along the shores or on higher ground via Place Fell.

Stunning views of Ullswater can be admired from the peak of Helvellyn and Striding Edge. Millcroft is a traditionally built Lakeland cottage full of charm and character which includes original beamed ceilings and open fire both helping create a relaxing ambience.

Some of the pubs overlook the picturesque Ullswater lake where you can try your hand at some exhilarating outdoor pursuits, or perhaps take a soothing cruise on one of the Ullswater Steamers.
