The property

High Rigg Shepherd's Retreat is an idyllic base, resting a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of the market town of Brampton, ideally positioned for exploring all that Cumbria has to offer.

The secluded position of the hideaway is perfect for a couple seeking a refreshing getaway, with everything you could possibly need to enjoy a relaxing week-long break.

Be welcomed into the well-presented open-plan living room, where a home-cooked shepherd's pie awaits you on arrival.

The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for catering your own delicious evening meals which can be enjoyed in front of the woodburning stove, gently filling the room with warmth during a winter's night.

Open the patio doors to spend a moment or two on the decked area, where you can enjoy a spot of alfresco dining before dipping into the bubbling hot tub to admire the surroundings views further.

Keep warm in front of the superb Kadai firepit and pop open the bottle of champagne and roast some marshmallows before you retire to the plush king-size bed.

If you can tear yourself away from this quaint base, a short car journey will bring you to Brampton where you will be delighted by the amenities that await you, as well as access to exploring the Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border raiders from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
