“The property was generally very comfortable and well equipped.”

We had problems locking the front door but we understand that wooden doors warp. The owners were aware of the problem. My only gripe is the lack of any information at all in the welcome pack about the heating. We realised of course there was underfloor heating in parts of the house and very nice it was too but some explanation of how it had been programmed and a simple guide to how to manually override it would have been very helpful. The instruction manual has been copied in one of the packs ...

The instruction manual has been copied in one of the packs but the information was quite complex and hard to follow. Not really what you want when you're on holiday! Still we worked it out but the lack of a simple user friendly explanation was an omission. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and had cosy evenings in front of the fire after days of slopping about on muddy walks ! Great cycling by the way: lovely quiet roads

Thank you for your feed back and pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and got to meet some of the lovely locals. We are afraid the underfloor heating instructions (which were photocopied from the original instructions as they were in a very small booklet so we enlarged the print for easy reading ) are the only instructions that came with the heating system. Any over ride instructions is not an omission on our part but in the instructions booklet. We left the heating on constant 24/7 at an ambient temperature as the weather was cold and therefore not necessary to be altered. The cottage is maintained weekly but the very wet weather has caused the door to need a bit of a push closed Property Owner

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.

Please note: this property comes with a good housekeeping bond of £200.
