    “A lovely cosy comfortable well equipped cottage.”

    The garden is teeming with wildlife and we saw a red squirrel and a woodpecker right by the back door. This is my second stay and I hope to return. Fantastic location if you want to walk from the door and forget the car and potential traffic. Very helpful owner. Many thanks :)

The property

This former quarryman's cottage enjoys the perfect setting many would say; secluded and tranquil and set between Coniston and Little Langdale and not far from the dramatic Hodge Close quarries. There is great walking both high and low level right from your door. Set in a walker's paradise close to Langdale and the Coniston Fells, this traditional Lakeland cottage is a cosy retreat for lovers of the outdoors. Great for couples or families, Holme Ground is within easy reach of all of Lakeland's attractions and is surrounded by stunning scenery. The location makes Holme Ground Cottage a great base for touring the Lake District, for all sorts of adventure activities or for simply relaxing and taking in the quiet beauty of this picturesque area. Pond dipping in Holme Tarn just above the cottage is a firm favourite for younger guests while for the grown-ups there are excellent and numerous local pubs all serving great food and real ales within easy reach. This comfortable cottage is very well equipped and furnished with everything you would want at home - so all you need to bring is yourselves! The wildlife in this idyllic spot will be enjoyed by all. A huge variety of birdlife, red squirrels, rabbits, deer and sheep share the garden and surroundings. In all seasons this is a magical setting. == Accommodation in detail Away from it all yet only 3 miles from Coniston village and around 20 minutes by car to Ambleside, a lane leads to Hodge Close and this row of cottages with 2 parking spaces. Entrance into the dining / kitchen, well equipped and with a slate floor. The living room has comfy furnishings around the warming open fire (coal provided year round) and access out to the sun trap patio and 'natural' garden. Upstairs on the first floor is a king size bedroom and a bunk bedded room with full size single beds and the bathroom with shower over the bath; upstairs again to the top floor and double bedroom, beamed with sloping ceiling and Velux window overlooking the fells Location Holme Ground Cottage nestles between Little Langdale and Coniston, in a stunning area, surrounded by woodland and fell. There are a handful of traditional cottages here, as well as the awe inspiring quarries at Hodge Close and other former workings including those at Tilberthwaite. A self-catering cottage here makes a great base for walking or touring in the Lake District. The property is surrounded by scenic strolls for all abilities, and there are many famous Lake District walking routes nearby. Well worth the ramble to the top of Holme Fell is the amazing view down the length of Coniston Water. The Langdale Valley, Tarn Hows, Coniston Water and Coniston Old Man are all close by. All this from the cottage door. This holiday cottage makes a magical retreat for walking in the Lake District, or simply soaking up the breath-taking scenery. Some excellent pubs are within walking distance; The Three Shires at Little Langdale is 1.5miles away (on foot), The Britannia at Elterwater a little further on with the famous Drunken Duck a short drive away. Real Lakeland ale and hearty meals your reward! For sophisticated shopping, acclaimed Lake District restaurants and the delights of Lake Windermere's shores, head to Ambleside. It's only a short drive away and the perfect place to stock up the kitchen. A short stroll will take you from the village centre to Waterhead Pier. From there, Windermere Lake Cruises provide a scenic route to Bowness and Lakeside.

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park, making it a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For watersports enthusiasts, the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola’, or visit Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin. Nearby attractions include the award-winning village of Hawkshead, home of the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Tarn Hows, one of the most visited beauty spots in the country and Esthwaite Water, famous for its fishing.
